Staff Research Scientist, Android Pixel Audio

Position Overview

Google is seeking a Staff Research Scientist specializing in audio technology for the Android Pixel platform. This role involves pioneering algorithm development to enhance audio applications across Pixel products by designing, validating, and optimizing audio pipelines through both offline simulations and real-time hardware deployment. The position includes close collaboration with internal teams such as DeepMind and Google Silicon to contribute to the future Google audio technology roadmap within the Pixel ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and optimization of machine learning models related to audio for Pixel devices.
• Implement and enhance model inference processes within the Android Kernel, Hardware Abstraction Layer, and audio/speech algorithm workflows.
• Design and refine machine learning architectures tailored for Pixel hardware.
• Oversee the full lifecycle from prototyping new audio features to successful deployment.
• Work collaboratively with Android Pixel Audio and Google Silicon teams to develop and refine new functionality.

Required Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, a closely related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 4 years of research experience spanning multiple projects or teams.
• Documented contributions to scientific literature with submissions to prominent conferences or journals such as CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICML, or ICLR.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five or more years of software development experience in one or more programming languages, or three years with an advanced degree.
• Familiarity with machine learning concepts and model architectures.
• Expertise in audio/speech model creation and inference.
• Multiple research publications focused on audio, signal processing, speech, or machine learning fields.
