Role Overview
This opportunity involves a leadership position focused on managing the development and strategy of a connectivity platform that facilitates secure sharing of financial data across a modern financial ecosystem. The successful candidate will own the approach to enabling external bank and brokerage account linking, alongside managing a public API.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish a long-term vision and strategic plan for financial ecosystem connectivity, balancing immediate product requirements with scalable platform capabilities.
- Decide which connectivity features should be developed in-house versus leveraged through external partnerships, aiming to create unique client value.
- Manage the complete user experience for linking external financial accounts, including processes for account authentication, institution selection, error resolution, recovery, and ongoing connection management.
- Enhance connection success rates, system reliability, institution coverage, and develop routing strategies to allocate appropriate connectivity providers per institution and workflow.
- Implement self-healing, AI-driven methods to detect and recover from connection failures, reducing the need for manual intervention.
- Balance priorities related to user conversion, fraud risk, compliance, and operational workload through collaboration with relevant teams.
- Develop platform features that empower product teams to access external financial data consistently and reliably.
- Oversee integration and collaboration with external connectivity vendors, determining the sustainable balance between proprietary solutions and partner offerings.
- Lead the roadmap and strategy for the public API and external financial data access, ensuring secure and user-friendly authorization mechanisms.
- Create platform capabilities covering authentication, consent management, permission controls, data access, and partner integration.
- Identify and prioritize significant partners, use cases, and opportunities within the broader financial services ecosystem.
- Formulate a product vision granting clients increased control over how their financial data is accessed and shared.
- Develop and communicate a detailed connectivity strategy including metrics, roadmaps, prioritizations, and investment justifications.
- Facilitate cross-functional cooperation among Engineering, Design, Security, Legal, Compliance, Operations, and external partners to deliver measurable product enhancements.
Candidate Requirements
- Demonstrated ownership of complex, technical products such as platforms, APIs, developer tools, or integration systems with measurable outcomes like adoption, reliability, or conversion improvements.
- Strong technical acumen enabling effective collaboration with engineering teams on API design, authentication mechanisms, data modeling, routing, integrations, and architectural considerations.
- Experience managing products involving external vendors or partners, including strategic build-versus-buy decisions and accountability management.
- Understanding of product reliability responsibilities, including familiarity with error classification, failure recovery, monitoring, and operational impacts.
- Balance between customer growth and experience with considerations of fraud mitigation, risk management, security, and compliance.
- Ability to distill complex technical concepts into clear product strategies, visionary roadmaps, and well-founded investment proposals.
- Strong analytical capabilities utilizing data to evaluate reliability, conversion rates, coverage, adoption, and overall product effectiveness.
- Comfort in establishing measurement systems and defining metrics even when data is incomplete or reporting is insufficient.
- Proven cross-disciplinary leadership skills to influence teams across Engineering, Design, Security, Legal, Compliance, Operations, and external stakeholders.
- Capacity for simplifying intricate systems and architecting scalable, maintainable solutions without unnecessary complexity.
- Familiarity with open banking principles, Canada's consumer banking data frameworks, or related data-sharing standards is highly advantageous.
- Exposure to financial data aggregation via aggregators, banks, fintech startups, or financial technology firms is preferred.
- Experience launching public APIs or developer platforms commercially, including partner onboarding and ongoing support, is a plus.
- A pragmatic and strategic product mindset with expertise spanning technical infrastructure, external ecosystem management, and client interface design.
