Job description

About Gigs

Gigs is developing an operating system for mobile services—a platform enabling tech companies to seamlessly embed global connectivity into their products. Much like Stripe simplifies payment integrations, Gigs bridges the telecom industry with modern technology, automating provisioning and demystifying telecom operations for services ranging from fintech mobile plans to HR work phone solutions. With a team of around 150 across the US and Europe, backed by nearly $100 million in funding from investors like Ribbit Capital, Google, and Y Combinator, Gigs is rapidly growing and innovating in telecom.

Company Values and Culture

  • Speed and urgency: delivering with bold deadlines and weekly impact.
  • Ownership mentality: proactively fixing issues without waiting for permission.
  • Customer focus: treating our customers' products as our own.
  • Comfort with ambiguity: making sound decisions amidst incomplete information in emerging tech.
  • First principles approach: questioning traditional methods to find better solutions.

Challenges and Environment

Gigs tackles complex telecom problems with real-time constraints, integrating decades-old carrier protocols with emerging technologies like eSIMs, IoT, satellite connectivity, and future 6G networks. Ensuring backend processes and frontend experiences align perfectly is key, as users, ops agents, and developers all rely on accurate, responsive platforms.

Role Overview

As a Staff Product Engineer on the Connect team (our hosted checkout product for mobile plans generating millions annually), you will own architecture, technical vision, and deliver full-stack product experiences using React, Next.js, and TypeScript. You will collaborate closely across design, backend, and product teams to transform ambiguous problems into shipped products. Responsibilities include enhancing frontend operational excellence through performance budgets, error handling, observability, and graceful degradation. You will also influence API designs, debug backend issues (using Ruby or Go), explore AI integrations, mentor senior engineers, and help shape the senior engineering career path.

Candidate Profile

  • 7+ years experience building and operating large-scale React applications with deep expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and Next.js.
  • Strong views on state management, rendering optimization, and scalable design systems, grounded by real-world experience.
  • Full-stack fluency: comfortable reading/modifying Ruby or Go backend services and judging client vs server fixes.
  • Front-end operational mindset emphasizing error tracking, performance monitoring, and robust failure handling.
  • Experience with agentic AI development beyond simple code completion, understanding when AI enhances productivity.
  • Proven influence in cross-team technical initiatives without direct authority, using credibility and evidence.
  • Track record of mentoring peers and elevating team capabilities through specific contributions.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience within telecom, payments, or multi-market API platform domains.
  • Familiarity with Gigs’ technology stack: React, TypeScript, Next.js, Node.js, Tailwind CSS, Ruby, and Go.
  • Background working in fast-growing companies scaling engineering teams from around 50 to 200 engineers.
  • Expertise in designing and maintaining design systems, component libraries, or platform boundaries at scale.

Working Environment and Benefits

Gigs emphasizes in-person teamwork, believing that collaboration generates superior ideas and decision-making. While flexibility for remote focused work exists, regular presence in hubs and occasional travel for workshops, client meetings, and company off-sites is expected. Offices are designed to be welcoming and conducive to collaboration.

Gigs offers competitive salaries (€125,000 - €150,000 base plus equity depending on background and performance), stock options, home office stipends, learning and development budgets, and complimentary phones with international data plans. The company prioritizes rewarding excellence and partners with employees on growth.
