Job description

About Mitti by SafetyCulture

Mitti is a global technology company focused on improving work for the three billion frontline workers worldwide. With a team of nearly 1,000 employees, Mitti operates at the scale of major tech firms but without cumbersome bureaucracy. All permanent staff receive equity, enabling shared growth as the company expands. The current phase emphasizes intelligent scaling, harnessing AI, a robust vision, and genuine ownership.

Role Purpose

The Staff Platform Engineer is dedicated to enhancing the effectiveness of Mitti’s engineering teams. The role is responsible for foundational infrastructure and internal tools, including the Internal Developer Platform, which empower engineering teams to deliver software faster and more efficiently. This position focuses on transformative technological advancements and architectural strategies rather than mere maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-month strategic initiatives introducing new technologies or architectural methods that significantly advance the platform from planning through implementation.
  • Architect and develop resilient, scalable foundational infrastructure to support a growing customer base.
  • Enhance the Internal Developer Platform to become the main interface through which engineering teams access infrastructure, minimizing direct Platform team interactions.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams across the company to understand their needs and translate them into practical deliverables.
  • Engage early in solution design to mitigate operational risks before deployment.
  • Coordinate cross-team technical discussions to achieve optimal outcomes without formal management authority.
  • Provide technical leadership within a small team, setting standards and mentoring engineers across the organization on platform and delivery practices.
  • Utilize quality assurance tools and AI-powered assistance to produce effective, reliable code on the first attempt.

Required Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Go, the primary language for platform and infrastructure development including Kubernetes controllers and core routing systems, with readiness to contribute immediately.
  • Extensive practical experience with Kubernetes, critical as the platform runs on this technology.
  • Strong expertise in AWS cloud services; knowledge of GCP or other clouds is advantageous but does not replace AWS experience.
  • Competence in Python programming and Terraform for infrastructure as code.
  • Sound understanding and hands-on experience with GitOps methodologies and CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems and network troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability to work across unfamiliar codebases and domains, diagnosing issues and implementing improvements that establish best practices.
  • Architectural and system design experience within scalable SaaS platforms.
  • Judicious decision-making between building custom solutions and leveraging existing tools or partners to accelerate progress.

Behavioral Attributes

  • Proactive innovator who drives transformational changes to platform direction rather than incremental tweaks.
  • Leadership through influence by fostering consensus and facilitating sound decisions without creating bottlenecks.
  • Capability to simplify complex technical issues for varied audiences and to replace unreliable solutions with dependable patterns.
  • Commitment to elevating team capabilities through coaching, paired programming, code reviews, and comprehensive documentation.
  • Focus on the broader impact of work on customers, teams, and business success rather than isolated system components.
  • Curious and investigative mindset, asking probing questions to truly understand challenges beyond the surface.
  • Self-motivated and collaborative, comfortable engaging with diverse stakeholders across the organization.

AI Integration Skills

  • Use AI tools to expedite implementation and problem-solving without compromising core programming skills; AI enhances but does not substitute technical expertise.
  • Apply strategic thinking to AI adoption, selecting AI-assisted or automated solutions appropriately based on problem context.

Indicators of Success

  • Ownership and successful delivery of significant, long-term initiatives such as expanding to new regions, platform migrations, or impactful technology changes.
  • Widespread adoption of the Internal Developer Platform by engineering teams for self-service operational needs, reducing direct Platform team requests.
  • Adoption of reliability and delivery best practices designed by the role as organizational standards that simplify platform use.
  • Recognition of the Platform Experience group as a collaborative partner that reliably takes scope and delivers results, fostering positive relationships.

Key Collaborators

  • Engineering teams who are the primary users of the platform, interacting daily on infrastructure, tooling, and delivery.
  • Product managers and group leads who guide the platform’s development in alignment with team and customer requirements.
  • The observability team to maintain a well-instrumented, production-ready environment.
  • Engineering and product leadership responsible for overarching architecture enabling low-friction development.

Additional Benefits

  • Equity ownership opportunities with high growth potential paired with a competitive salary package.
  • Flexible working options adapting to employee needs.
  • Access to learning resources and professional growth programs.
  • Engagement activities including hackathons, workshops, and informal knowledge-sharing events.
  • Daily on-site culinary service providing breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
  • Premium facilities including barista coffee, craft beer, specialty wines, and non-alcoholic drink selections.
  • Wellness programs such as employee assistance services and supportive parental leave policies.
  • Regular team celebrations and community events.
  • Onsite amenities including gym, table tennis, board games, library resources, and pet-friendly offices.

Inclusion Statement

The company is committed to building diverse, inclusive teams and fostering an environment where all employees can be authentic. Reasonable accommodations are provided throughout the hiring process to ensure equity for every candidate. The organization values potential highly and encourages applications even if candidates do not meet every listed requirement.
