Job description

About the Company

Mitti by SafetyCulture is a global technology company focused on developing tools that enhance work experiences for the three billion frontline workers worldwide. With a team of nearly 1,000 employees, they combine the scale of big tech with a flat, ownership-driven culture where every permanent employee receives equity, sharing in the company's growth. They are currently scaling their platform smartly by leveraging AI, clear vision, and real ownership.

Role Overview

As a Software Engineer II within the Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) team, you will design and build backend services, contributing to a SaaS platform's architecture and working with technologies such as Golang, OpenID Connect, SAML, AWS, Auth0, Kafka, and PostgreSQL. This role offers the opportunity to deepen expertise in the identity and access domain while supporting platform modernization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain scalable backend services and distributed systems in a large SaaS platform.
  • Own features from concept through delivery in close collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers.
  • Implement and manage authentication and user lifecycle processes including signup, login, multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, and user orchestration, enhancing expertise in identity management.
  • Contribute to safe migrations away from legacy identity solutions using feature flags, backwards compatibility strategies, and staged rollouts.
  • Integrate security best practices by cautiously handling credentials and tokens and proactively raising security concerns.
  • Engage actively in code reviews, testing, and continuous engineering improvements.
  • Design foundational platform capabilities that prioritize ease of use for other engineering teams as internal customers.
  • Demonstrate core company values: customer focus, transparency, teamwork, and bold execution.

Required Technical Skills and Experience

  • Proficiency in backend programming with a focus on scalable system design; experience in Golang strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience taking ownership of software features throughout their lifecycle in a collaborative setting.
  • Strong understanding of relational database modeling and PostgreSQL, including schema design, safe migrations, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments, particularly AWS, including deployment, maintenance, and production debugging.
  • Knowledge of distributed systems principles like API design, retries, idempotency, timeouts, and managing eventual consistency.
  • Experience or interest in authentication and identity technologies such as login/signup workflows, token management, single sign-on, OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0, and SAML.
  • Exposure to multi-tenant systems with complex organizational and membership boundaries under scaling scenarios.
  • Commitment to producing clean, maintainable, well-tested code and active participation in code reviews.

Behavioural Attributes

  • Self-motivated to solve well-defined problems independently with minimal daily supervision.
  • Exemplary judgment regarding when to proceed independently and when to escalate blockers or risks early.
  • Effective collaborator across teams including product, design, and engineering; capable of communicating technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Focuses on building solutions that consider downstream teams’ ease of adoption and use.
  • Adaptable and comfortable working within a domain undergoing active re-architecture and shifting priorities.

Artificial Intelligence Skills

  • Regularly utilizes AI coding assistants during daily work, applying critical evaluation of output for correctness, quality, and security.
  • Seeks practical automation or AI integration opportunities within feature development.
  • Expected level involves hands-on, daily use with informed skepticism; leadership in AI tooling or governance is beyond the scope of this position.

Additional Information

The company prioritizes inclusivity and belonging, encouraging applicants with diverse backgrounds and potential even if they do not meet every requirement. Reasonable adjustments are made throughout the hiring process to ensure fairness. The organization has been recognized as a Best Place to Work in Australia, the US, and the UK.
