Job Overview
This role involves delivering comprehensive direct and indirect nursing care, grounded in evidence-based procedures, catering to patients of all age groups within designated nursing units. The nurse must demonstrate expertise in addressing behavioral, developmental, and psychosocial needs of patients undergoing treatment.
Core Responsibilities
- Conduct timely patient admissions and continuous assessments, updating care plans tailored to individual patient requirements.
- Provide hands-on care and assess outcomes, emphasizing family-centered principles.
- Track and document patient health status and the effectiveness of treatments and interventions.
- Evaluate educational needs of patients and their families, factoring in cultural sensitivities and unique concerns.
- Deliver appropriate patient and family education materials and verify comprehension.
- Administer medications following established protocols using barcode scanning for accuracy.
- Perform prescribed treatments aligned with approved policies and educational guidelines.
- Leverage understanding of own role and collaboration with other healthcare professionals to effectively meet patient and population health needs.
- Commit to evidence-based practices by following care protocols, suggesting improvements supported by research, and participating in outcome evaluations.
- Delegate nursing care tasks appropriately within the nursing team.
- Maintain confidentiality and foster interdisciplinary professional communication regarding patient information.
- Uphold patient rights and embody the organization’s Patient First philosophy.
- Incorporate professional practice standards and patient safety principles in clinical duties.
- Report any errors or near-miss incidents promptly.
- Manage charge capture education and in-service training for their institute; ensure real-time charge entries in Epic or within 24 business hours in Perioperative Services.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or an equivalent qualification with at least a three-year accredited nursing curriculum.
- Minimum of two years post-graduate experience within general surgery or operating room environments.
- Valid and current national nursing license is mandatory.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association or equivalent, or must be obtained within three months of employment.
- Advanced certifications such as ACLS and PALS relevant to specialty area required from an accredited body or must be attained within six months of hire.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to efficiently handle multiple responsibilities.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
- Experience working with electronic medical record systems is highly preferred.
