Job description
Position Overview
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is inviting qualified Medical Physicists worldwide to join its pioneering cancer center for the launch of a Carbon Ion Radiation Therapy (CIRT) program. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in particle therapy, particularly in heavy ion technology (HIT).
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee treatment planning, quality assurance, patient safety during radiation treatment, conduct weekly chart reviews, and drive process improvements for various modalities including external beam, SRS/SRBT, HDR brachytherapy, SRS, and SRT.
- Support the development of the radiation oncology medical physics program, including establishing policies and procedures.
- Participate actively in departmental activities such as research, education, presentations, meetings, and chart rounds.
- Implement innovative treatment methodologies and advanced image-guided technologies, while collaborating with vendors and IT teams to resolve clinically relevant hardware and software challenges.
- Assess patients and document relevant notes to maintain treatment records and facilitate potential referrals.
- Ensure all oncology radiation physics services adhere to applicable UAE regulations and standards.
- Collaborate with medical and non-medical staff to ensure optimum patient treatment quality.
- Provide culturally sensitive care aligned with patient needs.
- Coordinate with the Clinical Engineering Department for machine maintenance and repairs.
- Adhere to all ethical and regulatory guidelines governing practice.
- Engage in administrative roles including committee participation, task forces, and performance improvement initiatives to support clinical operations.
- Maintain clinical privileges and comply with all medical staff policies.
- Lead acceptance testing of machines and compile documentation to comply with FANR regulatory standards for heavy ion technology and particle therapy.
- Develop and implement quality assurance protocols, testing procedures, and documentation frameworks specific to HIT/CIRT.
- Contribute to the creation and validation of treatment planning protocols, dose calculations, and algorithm modeling for HIT/CIRT.
- Participate in international training travel as required.
Additional Role Accountabilities
- Demonstrate strict adherence to radiation safety requirements mandated by FANR and international standards, including proper management of radiation monitoring badges.
- If authorized, comply with security protocols for the HDR brachytherapy suite.
- Adhere to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.
Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum of five years clinical experience in radiation therapy with extensive knowledge in treatment planning and quality management.
- Experience with particle therapy, especially heavy ion technology, and carbon ion radiation therapy is highly preferred.
- Possession of a Master's or PhD degree in radiation physics.
- Must hold a current license as required by national or state authorities.
- Eligibility for or possession of a valid UAE professional license.
- ABR board certification in radiation therapy physics and professional membership with the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) are preferred.
