Role Summary
The Crusoe Cloud Network Engineering team seeks an experienced and motivated Staff Network Production Engineer for our Network Operations division. This position focuses on implementing, operating, and maintaining the global edge, backbone, and data center networks that support high-performance computing clusters equipped with GPUs. The successful candidate will be self-driven, hands-on, and able to thrive in fast-evolving environments, bringing strong analytical and communication abilities to collaborate effectively across teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor network performance and conduct in-depth troubleshooting and root cause analysis of incidents, leading post-incident reviews and driving improvements.
- Implement network changes across data centers, backbone, and edge infrastructure to deploy next-generation designs, enhance capacity, and raise reliability.
- Oversee both immediate and strategic network requirements across all Crusoe network segments including frontend, backend, backbone, edge, and public cloud connections.
- Collaborate closely with Network Engineering and cross-functional departments to align network capabilities with business objectives.
- Lead initiatives focused on operational excellence by developing monitoring, alerting, and systems ensuring high network availability.
- Mentor network engineers establishing best practices for incident response, documentation, and readiness.
- Manage vendor relationships and contractual agreements for network-related services and equipment.
- Provide detailed visibility into network health through metrics, event reporting, and performance analysis.
- Participate actively in a 24/7 on-call support rotation to maintain network uptime and responsiveness.
Required Qualifications
- More than 10 years of experience managing large-scale production network environments.
- Deep expertise in network protocols including TCP/IP, QoS, BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, EVPN, VXLAN, and MPLS protocols like RSVP-TE and LDP.
- Proficient with network monitoring protocols and tools such as SNMP, IPFIX, sFlow/netFlow, and Telemetry.
- Solid understanding of data center, backbone, and edge network design and operations.
- Experience with scripting or programming in Python or comparable languages to automate processes and create operational tools.
- Hands-on familiarity with leading network hardware from vendors such as Mellanox, Cisco, Arista, and Juniper.
- Knowledgeable in popular commercial switch/router chipsets including Broadcom and Barefoot.
- Understanding of public cloud network integration with platforms including AWS, GCP, Azure, Ali Cloud, and OCI.
- Strong grasp of IPv6, including coexistence strategies with IPv4.
- Experience with network observability and analytic tools such as NSG, Kentik, Grafana, Arbor, ThousandEyes, Catchpoint, and Packet Design.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent experience encompassing three or more years work background.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of backend networking technologies such as Infiniband (IB), RoCE, or Spectrum-X is advantageous.
