Position Overview
The Staff Engineer role in AI within the Engineering Experience domain is a pivotal technical leadership position. Reporting to the Director of Engineering Experience, you will shape how hundreds of engineers leverage AI technology to enhance software development, design, and product workflows. You will own the technical direction for AI infrastructure including assisted and agentic coding tools, automated PR reviews, and the Multi-Channel Platform (MCP) connecting Vinted's AI tooling to internal systems, establishing AI as a key productivity multiplier.
Key Responsibilities

- Expand AI-enabled workflows to support engineers in debugging and system investigation using logs, traces, and contextual data.
- Implement AI assistance beyond coding for incident management, on-call guidance, automated handovers, and system navigation.
- Develop standards and practices for 'AI-ready' repositories, services, and workflows, fostering adoption through shared skillsets, scorecards, and streamlined golden paths.
- Steer the AI tooling team's roadmap to deliver a cohesive platform and oversee experimental projects transforming emerging AI features into company-wide practices.
- Evaluate third-party versus in-house AI engineering tools, guiding build-buy decisions with a focus on cost and technical fit.
- Establish metrics to measure AI-driven engineering success regarding adoption, quality, and developer efficiency.
- Represent AI engineering direction internally at senior engineer levels and contribute to the broader AI strategic initiatives.
Candidate Profile
- Passionate about the fast-evolving AI industry, continuously monitoring advances and translating them into practical engineering benefits.
- Proven experience at the staff engineer or architect level with large-scale platform initiatives across multiple teams.
- Hands-on expertise with AI coding and agentic tools including Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, and Codex, with a clear understanding of their integration in developer workflows.
- Strong knowledge of large language model application architectures including agent design, tool integration, retrieval systems, knowledge indexing, and operational production realities.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and rapidly changing technology landscapes.
- Pragmatic approach to discerning practical capability versus hype, skilled in conducting structured experiments and discontinuing ineffective solutions.
- Experienced in formulating and implementing technical strategies adopted broadly through coding standards, enablement, and documentation.
- Capable of supervising engineers, delegating detailed implementation work while maintaining architectural integrity.
- Excellent communication skills facilitating deep technical discussions and fostering cross-functional alignment and consensus.
