About the Role
HelloFresh is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to join our Customer Value Optimization tribe. This pivotal role bridges Data Science and Backend Engineering, focusing on turning machine learning models into dependable and scalable production platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and maintain resilient infrastructure for real-time ML model deployment.
- Serve as the technical liaison between Data Science and Backend Engineering teams to translate model requirements into efficient engineering implementations.
- Establish and promote best practices for model serving, API development, and system design across different teams.
- Lead technical cross-team initiatives, including architectural planning and practical execution.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists to guarantee models are performant, observable, and sustainable in production.
- Contribute to engineering standards and help define the tribe’s technical roadmap.
- Mentor engineers throughout various squads without direct managerial duties.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of seven years’ experience in backend engineering with a strong focus on Python development.
- Demonstrated expertise in creating and managing production ML model serving systems or ML platforms.
- Comprehensive knowledge of distributed systems, APIs, and microservices architecture.
- Proven ability to effectively collaborate across teams to complete complex, multifunctional projects.
- Excellent communication skills to engage efficiently with Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, and Data Engineers.
- A collaborative mindset combined with sound technical judgment and a low-ego approach.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with machine learning frameworks and serving tools.
- Familiarity with feature stores, model registries, or MLOps platforms.
- Background knowledge in e-commerce, subscription services, or personalization industries.
