Role Overview

The Staff Backend Engineer for Alerting will be part of the core team behind the Grafana open-source project, focusing on alert management. This remote role based in Ireland involves building scalable backend distributed systems for alert ingestion, delivery, and evaluation across Prometheus and Grafana alerts, supporting both cloud and on-premise environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Influence the team's product roadmap and personal development goals.
• Collaborate closely with the team to design, implement, and iterate on new features based on user feedback.
• Lead projects from concept through to customer delivery and operational maintenance.
• Contribute to related open-source initiatives beyond primary responsibilities.
• Design, build, operate, and maintain critical backend systems ensuring reliability, performance, and uptime.
• Participate actively in on-call rotations to support live services.
• Mentor colleagues, engage in design discussions, and promote team collaboration.
• Expand technical knowledge by exploring the cloud product and large distributed system codebases.

Candidate Profile

• Self-motivated with a proactive approach to tackling challenges.
• Customer-centric mindset that prioritizes user needs and intuitive product design.
• Ability to decompose complex problems into iterative, modular solutions for rapid feedback and delivery.
• Strong communicator adept at remote teamwork and collaboration.
• Proficient in at least one programming language; experience in Go preferred but skills in Python, Java, C++, Rust, or similar languages are valuable.
• Hands-on experience delivering projects independently from ideation to release.
• Background in cloud-based software development or systems engineering.
• Proven ability to write clean, maintainable, and efficient software.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range for this position in Ireland is between EUR 117,600 and EUR 141,120, depending on experience and skills. The package includes Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) to align team members with company growth. Compensation varies by location, with local pay scales discussed during recruitment.
