Job Overview
This role focuses on optimizing vessel and voyage utilization on specific services and trade routes, aligning with commercial directives, in coordination with Regional Commercial and Operations teams and other related departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage allocation and capacity for designated ship systems and trade routes.
- Engage in daily activities to enhance vessel profitability and utilization while minimizing operational costs such as storage and renomination.
- Optimize vessel utilization within the South Europe region across all allocation scopes involving full and empty containers.
- Coordinate with ship planners—both in-house and partner lines—on space issues and operational constraints like draft, ballast, bunker, and stack weight.
- Collaborate with Quality Service Controllers for cargo balancing and with Port Terminal Operations concerning terminal buildup and loading lists.
- Work closely with Trade Management Pricing & Steering teams on booking trends and market conditions.
- Align with Area Commercial Steering regarding market developments.
- Forecast voyage utilization and booking developments, maintaining liaison with the Trade Management Planning Support team.
- Handle special cargo approval requests such as out-of-gauge and flexi tank shipments.
- Manage shipment acceptance including waitlist handling; prioritize cargo during overbooking situations using commercial, operational, and cost criteria.
- Participate in ad hoc schedule adjustments and optimizations alongside Voyage Control, Fleet Support Center, and regional teams.
- Ensure timely communication of contingency measures like rollovers and cancellations to improve customer experience and minimize frustration.
- Support decision-making efforts to maintain schedule reliability while balancing utilization and cost mitigation for optimal company benefits.
- Maintain and proactively adjust baseline plans according to service and vessel realities, advocating cost-efficient contingency actions.
- Monitor adherence to allocation rules, overbooking levels, and prioritize rules usage.
Qualifications & Skills
- Operational experience or background in Trade Management or Commercial Steering preferred.
- Familiarity with Hapag-Lloyd’s internal applications such as FIS and Qlik is advantageous.
- Strong skills in MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated analytical, systematic, and efficient work approach.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and dependable.
- Willingness to accept full ownership and responsibility for assigned tasks.
- Effective team player with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work flexibly, including holidays and weekends.
- Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholder groups.
- Capacity to develop and implement innovative concepts and organizational structures.
- Knowledge of Hapag-Lloyd’s global product offerings including network and partners is a plus.
