About the Role
GHD is seeking a Specialist Soil Testing Technician with extensive experience in geotechnical laboratory testing to join our Sydney (Artarmon) team. This role involves leading advanced laboratory testing projects that support major engineering initiatives across transport, energy, and water sectors. Candidates with solid experience and those willing to develop into a specialist senior technician through training are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the execution, analysis, and reporting of complex geotechnical laboratory testing programs.
- Act as the subject matter expert for advanced soil mechanics testing within the lab environment.
- Conduct intricate testing procedures on soil, rock, and aggregate samples such as triaxial, direct shear, and consolidation tests.
- Ensure that all testing complies with ISO/IEC 17025, NATA accreditation, Australian Standards, client specifications, and internal quality controls.
- Maintain calibration and compliance records for laboratory instruments and equipment to uphold testing standards.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, geologists, geophysicists, and hydrogeologists across the broader geoscience team to support project quality and success.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of specialized soil mechanics laboratory testing experience, including triaxial, direct shear, and consolidation testing, with thorough knowledge of relevant standards; or alternatively, 10+ years in Cone Motor Testing (CMT) and geotechnical testing with enthusiasm to transition into a specialist role.
- Possession of a Certificate IV, Diploma, Associate Degree, or equivalent in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Laboratory Science.
- Strong familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 standards and NATA accreditation processes.
- Competent in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and committed to upholding workplace health and safety standards.
