Job description
Role Overview
The Specialist Reservoir Engineer is accountable for leading the creation, upkeep, and practical use of integrated static and dynamic reservoir simulation models that underpin field development decisions while ensuring compliance with company governance standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create tailored, history-matched dynamic simulation models.
- Integrate multidisciplinary datasets including geology, petrophysics, PVT, SCAL, pressure, and production data to guarantee physics-consistent modeling.
- Support optimization of field development plans (FDP), well positioning, and production forecasts.
- Prepare decision-ready technical outputs such as scenarios, sensitivities, and uncertainties for endorsement.
- Serve as the technical lead for simulation deliverables at governance meetings and workshops.
- Maintain and update models continuously with new data aligned with management frameworks.
- Adhere strictly to company policies, systems, processes, and procedures.
Challenges
- Ensure robust history matching across diverse data types.
- Manage uncertainties regarding STOIIP and reservoir behaviors.
- Handle integration complexities among seismic, SCAL, logs, and pressure datasets.
- Balance model readiness against project timelines.
- Produce defensible, auditable, and technically justified model outputs.
- Coordinate updates, re-runs, and scenario testing effectively.
- Align multiple stakeholders spanning field development, production engineering, geology, and upstream teams.
- Balance model complexity with practical usability.
- Support FDP optimization goals and sustainable production.
- Manage competing deliverables, workshops, committees, and support requests efficiently.
Success Criteria
- Achieve high technical standards including quality history matching and reliable predictive capabilities.
- Demonstrate deep understanding of reservoir physics, SCAL, and uncertainty workflows.
- Translate complex subsurface phenomena into clear, actionable outputs.
- Coordinate effectively across geology, petrophysics, SCAL, and production teams ensuring integration across workflows.
- Deliver clear, defensible technical presentations and ensure compliance with Integrated Reservoir Management audits.
- Oversee full model lifecycle from construction to updates and application.
- Prioritize and manage multiple requests under pressure maintaining responsiveness.
- Provide production forecasting, development scenario planning, and risk quantification.
Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) & Sustainability
Comply with all relevant HSE policies, procedures, controls, legislation, sustainability guidelines, international standards, best practices, and company codes of conduct.
Policies and Procedures
Implement and comply with approved departmental and company policies, procedures, systems, standards, and processes aligned with international benchmarks.
6–12 Month Deliverables
- Build, validate, and prepare integrated static-dynamic reservoir simulation models that are history matched and audit-ready.
- Perform thorough data quality control and integration.
- Document assumptions and uncertainties comprehensively.
- Engage technically with stakeholders presenting model evaluations and endorsement-ready packages.
- Provide production forecasts, development scenarios, and sensitivity analyses supporting field development strategies.
- Quantify uncertainty and risk including STOIIP assessments and P10, P50, P90 scenarios.
- Continuously update models with emerging well, pressure, and surveillance data while ensuring alignment with Integrated Reservoir Management standards.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams in geology, petrophysics, production, and facilities for fully integrated, consistent models.
Candidate Profile and Experience
- Proficient in integrated reservoir modeling including building, initializing, history matching, and uncertainty management of static and dynamic simulations.
- Expertise in advanced dynamic simulation, scenario forecasting, sensitivity, and uncertainty quantification.
- Experience supporting field development planning by aligning production targets, recovery factors, well placement, and pressure maintenance.
- Competent at assessing STOIIP uncertainty, reservoir connectivity, and risk analyses with scenario development.
- Skilled in optimization of well placements, injection strategies, and recovery mechanisms.
- Ability to prepare technical presentations, engage stakeholders, and support governance committees.
- Strong collaboration skills working with geology, drilling, facilities, and production teams to integrate subsurface with surface constraints.
