Role Summary

The Propagation Specialist is entrusted with organizing and overseeing daily propagation activities to meet production goals timely while preserving nursery quality standards. Responsibilities include managing propagation teams, supervising plant development, maintaining propagation facilities, and ensuring safety and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute nursery production plans and propagation schedules to fulfill production demands promptly.
  • Control daily propagation tasks including seed sowing, stem cutting, air layering, and plant division per procedural standards.
  • Supervise greenhouse operations, ensuring proper irrigation, misting, ventilation, and cleanliness.
  • Monitor plant health for pests, diseases, and growth anomalies, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Maintain nursery quality by assessing rooting, germination, vigor, uniformity, and survival rates; conduct batch inspections and implement improvements.
  • Lead and coordinate propagation team activities, assigning tasks, training personnel, and enforcing compliance with company protocols.
  • Manage inventory of plants, trays, pots, growing media, labels, and other materials, minimizing waste and reporting shortages.
  • Keep detailed records of propagation outcomes, production volume, losses, and plant identification for traceability.
  • Adhere to health, safety, and environmental guidelines, ensuring use of PPE and routine safety inspections.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Diploma in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science, Nursery Management, or related disciplines.
  • 3 to 5 years of practical experience in commercial plant propagation and nursery production.
  • Demonstrated expertise with large-scale propagation of varied plant types including ornamental trees, shrubs, groundcovers, grasses, succulents, and native species.
  • In-depth knowledge of propagation techniques: seed germination, stem cuttings, air layering, grafting, budding, and division.
  • Experience developing protocols for propagating new or difficult species.
  • Comprehension of propagation environments, irrigation and mist systems, growing media, plant nutrition, and integrated pest management.
  • Proven leadership in supervising teams and managing high-volume production to meet strict targets.
