Specialist General Practitioner (MICGP) - Full-Time

Overview

A well-established and growing general practice in County Carlow is inviting applications for a full-time permanent position for an experienced Specialist General Practitioner. This role offers the unique opportunity to blend traditional family medicine with nursing home care while actively contributing to the enhancement and delivery of chronic disease management services. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing comprehensive, high-quality healthcare to the local community.

Primary Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive primary healthcare services to both General Medical Services (GMS) and private patients.
• Provide clinical support and oversight for residents in affiliated nursing homes, including scheduled visits.
• Participate in and expand Chronic Disease Management programmes according to HSE guidelines.
• Manage acute medical conditions, preventative care, and long-term illnesses.
• Collaborate closely with nursing staff, administrative teams, and allied healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Maintain meticulous clinical records and documentation.
• Engage in clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Support continuous development of services and care pathways within the practice.

Qualifications and Essential Skills

• Full specialist registration in General Practice with the Irish Medical Council.
• Eligible to provide services under the General Medical Services (GMS) Scheme.
• Experience working within Irish healthcare, particularly with GMS patient populations.
• Proficient knowledge of Irish primary care systems and GMS structures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Possession of a full clean driving licence and reliable transport for community and nursing home visits.
