Sound Designer

About the Role

The Sound Designer is a key member of the Audio Post team responsible for producing and delivering top-tier audio for Mediacorp's diverse productions, including dramas, entertainment shows, documentaries, game shows, films, and digital media. This role collaborates closely with creative teams from early development stages to final output, ensuring the audio effectively enhances storytelling and complies with creative, technical, and broadcast standards across stereo, surround, and immersive formats.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop and apply music and sound effect designs for various content types such as dramas, sitcoms, commercials, variety shows, documentaries, movies, and social media.
• Compose and arrange original compositions, moods, underscore, and theme music spanning varied genres to meet production needs.
• Create music that aligns with creative briefs and enhances scene emotion, including scoring to picture when necessary.
• Conduct recording and editing of vocals and live instrumental performances.
• Design and edit sound effects and foley sounds.
• Edit and mix dialogue, music, and effects to high broadcast standards for both stereo and surround sound formats.
• Engage with producers and directors during spotting sessions and deliver session files and audio assets adhering to technical requirements.
• Manage assigned projects effectively to meet production timelines and broadcast deadlines.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Possess a diploma or degree in Music, Audio Production, Sound Design, or hold equivalent relevant professional experience.
• Relevant hands-on experience in audio post-production, music production, sound design, and composition.
• Strong musical foundation with verifiable experience in composition and arrangement; submission of portfolio or demo reel is mandatory.
• Proficient with standard Digital Audio Workstations such as Avid Pro Tools, Cubase, and Logic Pro.
• Experienced with virtual instruments, sample libraries, audio plugins, and restoration or sound-design tools like iZotope RX.
• Comprehensive understanding of audio post-production processes and broadcast standards.
• Skilled in sound design, sound effects editing, foley, dialogue editing, music editing, mixing, and mastering.
• Ability to compose, arrange, and produce original music across a variety of genres for different production requirements.
• Proficient in audio editing, MIDI programming, music production, recording, and mixing techniques.
• Possesses strong musical sensitivity towards balance, timbre, rhythm, melody, harmony, and overall musical structure.
• Capability to record and edit vocals and live instruments efficiently.
• Expertise in mixing dialogue, music, and effects according to stereo, surround, and other required formats.
• Playing at least one musical instrument is advantageous.
• Exceptional at prioritizing and managing multiple projects to meet stringent production and broadcasting deadlines.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills to interact effectively with coworkers, producers, directors, artists, and production stakeholders.
• Detail-focused and meticulous, exercising sound judgment independently.
• Ability to thrive and adapt under pressure.
• Eagerness to learn emerging technologies, tools, and production workflows.
• Willingness to work shifts including weekends.
