About the Role
We are looking for a seasoned GIS Specialist and Solution Architect to lead and oversee the technical aspects of enterprise geospatial systems. This role involves guiding architecture design, cloud migration projects, infrastructure upgrades, vendor coordination, and operational support to ensure robust, scalable, and sustainable GIS services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and provide architectural direction for enterprise GIS platforms and related technologies.
- Support design and implementation activities involving cloud migration, system modernization, version upgrades, and operational preparedness.
- Plan and execute GIS platform updates, cloud transitions, infrastructure refreshes, disaster recovery drills, and security hardening efforts.
- Assess and propose technology solutions in line with governmental tech standards, cloud strategies, and cybersecurity frameworks.
- Design GIS architectures that can be cloud-native or hybrid on platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCC.
- Create integration strategies, including REST APIs, web services, secure data exchange methods, authentication mechanisms, and inter-system connectivity.
- Manage geospatial data architectures focusing on geodatabases, spatial schemas, metadata, governance, and data lifecycle.
- Conduct technical evaluations, troubleshoot application and infrastructure issues, perform root cause analyses, and oversee capacity sizing.
- Collaborate with vendors and service teams for system implementations, maintenance, and service management.
- Analyze business and technical requirements to craft scalable and maintainable GIS solutions.
- Take on additional duties necessary to support enterprise geospatial platforms and services effectively.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- A Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, IT, Geomatics, GIS, Engineering, or related fields.
- At least 5 years’ experience in roles such as Technical Lead, Solution Architect, or GIS Engineer focused on GIS system design and operations.
- Hands-on involvement across full lifecycle GIS projects including requirement gathering, architecture design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support.
- In-depth understanding of Enterprise GIS platforms, especially Esri ArcGIS Enterprise suite components.
- Experience maintaining production-grade GIS systems with strict availability, security, monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery standards.
- Knowledge of government security compliance and risk assessment procedures.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, capable of engaging various technical and business audiences.
Technical Skillset
- Expertise with Esri ArcGIS Enterprise technologies and related web and desktop GIS tools.
- Cloud platforms experience: AWS, Azure, GCC; including hybrid infrastructure modernization and performance optimization.
- Integration technologies involving REST APIs, web services, secure data transfer methods, and identity management systems (IAM, SSO).
- Database management with PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server, Oracle, and working knowledge of spatial data models and governance.
- Profound understanding of GIS data standards/formats such as feature services, WMS, WFS, GeoJSON.
- Automation scripting capabilities using Python, ArcPy, and geoprocessing workflows.
Preferred Experience
- Administrative and troubleshooting skills within ArcGIS Enterprise environments.
- Experience deploying ArcGIS solutions in cloud environments like AWS and GCC+.
- Participation in cloud migration and transformation projects for geospatial platforms.
- Familiarity with government geospatial platform ecosystems and multi-agency data sharing initiatives.
- Experience managing GIS products and services supporting multiple organizations.
- Knowledge of government security policies regarding spatial enterprise systems.
Project Exposure
- Implementation, migration, upgrades, and ongoing support of enterprise GIS platforms.
- Driving cloud migration and modernization initiatives for geospatial solutions.
- Integration of GIS with other enterprise systems and identity providers.
- Supporting spatial systems that serve government agencies and external stakeholders.
Additional Duties
- Contribute to technical and architectural planning and reviews.
- Document designs, operational procedures, and technical specifications comprehensively.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across data, application, and infrastructure layers.
- Collaborate across teams, including vendors, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and senior management.
- Provide expert technical advice on GIS to facilitate informed decisions.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer and foster sustainable GIS operations within the organization.
