Software Engineering Director

About the Role

We are seeking a Software Engineering Director to lead our Sportsbook Core Apps Enablement division. You will oversee multiple engineering teams responsible for delivering fundamental tools, platforms, and services that empower our mobile and front-end applications. Your focus will be on providing the infrastructure, developer experience, and capabilities required for rapid, high-quality feature deployment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor several software development teams that support Product Engineering by delivering essential services and tools to enable swift and frictionless progress.
• Define and guide the strategic direction for developer tooling and enablement capabilities that accelerate product delivery.
• Create and communicate a technical vision for Core Apps Enablement, identifying capability gaps and coordinating ownership across mobile, backend-for-frontend (BFF), and supporting services.
• Collaborate with experts in mobile platforms (iOS, Android, Web), BFF services, and platform engineering to discover reusable technologies that strengthen our competitive edge.
• Develop and maintain the roadmap for foundational services critical for efficient engineering delivery.
• Identify technology gaps and risks in the enablement space, ensuring scalable, reliable, and productive BFF service designs.
• Promote optimal team composition through recruitment, performance management, and compassionate leadership.
• Partner with Product Engineering leadership and stakeholders to align backlogs and roadmaps with impactful enablement capabilities.
• Champion operational excellence and transparency using data and KPIs related to platform reliability and developer productivity.
• Collaborate with IT Operations for effective platform support, treating platform incidents with urgency equivalent to customer-facing issues.
• Coordinate with partners and regulators to establish robust release processes, especially for mobile and backend deployments.
• Deliver sound architectural solutions to complex enablement challenges, balancing build versus buy decisions with a long-term perspective.
• Communicate strategic initiatives regarding mobile platform evolution, BFF architecture, and enablement service capabilities with a 3–5 year vision.
• Model exemplary behavior aligned with company principles, fostering an open culture of collaboration and enablement.
• Oversee financial expenditures effectively, optimizing costs related to tools, infrastructure, and vendor services while recognizing savings opportunities.

Required Qualifications

• Over 10 years in software roles with at least 5 years leading software engineering teams, preferably including management of managers.
• In-depth experience with mobile platforms (iOS, Android, Web) and BFF architectures, understanding challenges and needs of engineering teams.
• Proven background in building developer tools, enablement services, or strategic capabilities that boost engineering efficiency.
• Experience designing and deploying technology solutions for consumer-facing products in dynamic and high-pressure environments.
• Hands-on expertise developing highly available, fault-tolerant, resilient applications and transactional platforms throughout the software lifecycle.
• Strong knowledge of agile methodologies and continuous improvement in delivery speed with quality.
• Experience supporting production software systems with dedication to stability, availability, and performance improvement, including on-call duties.
• History of working with partner teams through near-shoring, off-shoring, or third-party development.
• Capability in setting and executing strategic visions for enablement capabilities.
• Experience delivering distributed, scalable backend systems and APIs.
