Software Engineer - Workspaces & Dashboards

About the Role

Join Phocas Software in Christchurch, New Zealand, as a Software Engineer focused on Workspaces and Dashboards. You will be part of a team building the next generation of financial planning and analytics tools that empower users to understand their business data, make well-informed decisions, and act confidently.

The Workspaces product is an AI assistant enabling customers to ask business questions in natural language, interpret those questions accurately, gather and analyze data, produce helpful visualizations, and explain outcomes clearly. Your role will also involve integrating insights from Workspaces into Dashboards and other Phocas products.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance features within Workspaces and Dashboards.
• Transform user inquiries into meaningful analysis and visual displays.
• Conduct experiments with AI models, tools, and new product concepts.
• Ensure AI-powered features are reliable, high quality, and user friendly.
• Integrate Workspaces seamlessly with other product components and workflows.
• Work with technologies including React, TypeScript, GraphQL, backend services, AWS, and AI development tools.
• Manage the software lifecycle from design through deployment and ongoing improvements.
• Collaborate intimately with cross-functional teams such as Product, Design, Data, Platform, and actual customers.

Candidate Profile

• Strong foundations in software engineering principles.
• Experience building contemporary web applications, especially using React and TypeScript.
• A passion for AI and curiosity about how AI can enhance both products and development processes.
• Willingness and ability to learn new technologies swiftly and work across full-stack components.
• Bonus qualifications include background in data, analytics, visualization, conversational interfaces, AI products, plus familiarity with GraphQL, Java, Python, Terraform, and AWS.
• Excellent communication skills with a team-oriented problem-solving mindset.
• Prior knowledge of finance or business intelligence is an advantage.
