Software Engineer - Trust & Safety

Role Overview

Join FanDuel's Trust & Safety team within the CPE Platform as a Software Engineer, contributing to the development of dependable and engaging tools for millions of users. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary group, bringing practical engineering skills, problem-solving abilities, and eagerness to learn and support peers. Your role includes writing well-structured code, participating in technical discussions, and fostering continual team improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to building and enhancing Responsible Gaming tools as part of the Trust & Safety team.
• Develop and maintain frontend tools using React-based frameworks.
• Implement backend services and APIs with Java, handling large volumes of signals, events, and enforcement actions.
• Design scalable and reliable APIs, services, and database functionalities to manage high traffic loads.
• Participate in feature development, fixes, and improvements across the full technology stack with mentorship from senior engineers.
• Conduct thorough testing of your work and proactively improve service reliability, monitoring, and maintainability.
• Engage in code reviews, design discussions, planning meetings, and team rituals, contributing ideas and asking insightful questions.
• Investigate and resolve bugs by analyzing root causes and implementing practical enhancements.
• Gain hands-on experience with scaling systems, databases, caching strategies, and cloud infrastructure.
• Maintain and update documentation to ensure clarity on system and tool functionalities and support processes.
• Work collaboratively with engineers, product teams, operations, and compliance to enhance platform safety and integrity.
• Bring curiosity, humility, and a learning mindset while growing your engineering judgement and technical confidence.

Desired Qualifications and Interests

• Practical experience with React or similar component-based frontend technologies and a passion for building clean, user-friendly interfaces.
• Familiarity with Java or other object-oriented languages and enthusiasm for backend service and API development.
• Knowledge of databases and SQL, with interests in data modeling, performance tuning, and scalability.
• Understanding of fundamental data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
• Interest in platform integrity, trust and safety, fraud detection, or compliance-related systems is a plus but not mandatory.
• Curiosity about distributed systems, reliability engineering, monitoring, and operational aspects of high-traffic systems.
• Experience or interest in cloud technologies, containerization, and continuous integration/deployment tools is beneficial but not required.
• Basic understanding of testing principles and a commitment to writing tests during software development.
• Comfortable collaborating in a team environment by asking questions, receiving feedback, and learning from colleagues.
• Pragmatic problem-solving skills and a dedication to leaving code and documentation clearer than found.
• Enthusiasm for working on systems that protect users and maintain fairness and safety at scale.
