Role Overview

Ottimate aims to simplify accounts payable and payment processes for businesses. They seek a Backend Engineer to join their efforts in launching new products. Their technology stack includes Django, Angular, Postgres, and AWS, with an essential focus on strong Django expertise. Key competencies include planning, delivery, and continual learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate on planning, developing, and testing new features.
• Integrate learnings from past experiences to innovate fintech solutions for diverse businesses.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams — engineers, designers, and product managers — to define user interactions.
• Handle bug triaging and resolution, often engaging directly with users.
• Review code via Pull Requests ensuring speed without compromising unit test coverage and quality.
• Assist in migrating certain components to independent microservices.
• Contribute to features impacting tens of thousands of customers.
• Experience in early-stage startups is highly advantageous.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

• At least 3 years of professional experience developing web applications using modern software engineering methods.
• Strong proficiency in Python and Django framework.
• Ability to identify and resolve complex database performance bottlenecks.
• A critical thinker who evaluates both technical and user experience aspects of the product.
• Experience designing scalable and efficient backend systems with pragmatic decision-making.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical information clearly across teams.
• Proactive in diagnosing and resolving critical issues expediently.

Preferred But Not Required

• Background in fintech or accounting domains.
• Familiarity with ERP or accounting system integrations.
• Knowledge of purchase order workflows.
• Experience with AWS DevOps practices.
• Strong product intuition.
