About the Role
This role involves leading engineering teams responsible for productivity improvement tools and features within Google One and Photos. As a Software Engineer Manager, you will oversee multiple teams across locations, balancing technical leadership with team management responsibilities. Google One is a rapidly growing subscription service for personal cloud storage enhanced by advanced AI capabilities, boasting over 150 million subscribers. The position offers a chance to influence subscriber experiences and premium business initiatives significantly.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and convey team priorities aligned with broader organizational goals, ensuring strategy and operational processes are uniform across teams.
- Establish clear role-based expectations for team members, conduct regular performance and development meetings, and offer coaching and constructive feedback.
- Create and adapt mid-term technical roadmaps for multiple teams, addressing future requirements and infrastructure expansion.
- Lead system design efforts across the broader scope, authoring and reviewing code to resolve complex and ambiguous problems.
- Evaluate engineers' code for adherence to best practices including style, correctness, efficiency, and maintainability.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field.
- At least 8 years of experience in software development.
- Minimum 3 years of experience developing developer tools such as compilers, automated release systems, code design and testing tools, or test automation frameworks.
- At least 3 years in a technical leadership capacity.
- Minimum 2 years involved in people or team management roles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degrees such as a Master's or PhD in Computer Science or allied technical disciplines.
- Experience of 3 years or more operating within large, matrixed organizations.
