Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our Platform Services team located in Christchurch. This role involves collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to design, implement, deploy, and maintain scalable, highly available cloud-native systems that underpin our products and services.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, rigorously test, deploy, and maintain robust, production-quality software solutions.
• Design scalable backend services and cloud-native applications tailored to business needs.
• Collaborate across teams to ideate and implement new platform capabilities.
• Address complex technical problems with practical, maintainable solutions.
• Create and upkeep detailed software designs and technical documentation adhering to engineering and security standards.
• Engage in code reviews and feedback processes to ensure high code quality and foster knowledge exchange.
• Integrate desktop applications, cloud services, and customer-facing web platforms to deliver seamless experiences.
• Participate in Agile methodologies, consistently seeking opportunities for learning and process enhancement.
• Contribute to operational excellence through monitoring, troubleshooting, and iterative improvements.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related practical experience.
• Minimum of five years in professional software engineering roles.
• Proficient in Python development with hands-on experience.
• Skilled in designing and deploying cloud-based applications and services.
• Experience working with AWS, GCP, or other contemporary cloud platforms.
• Familiarity with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and modern DevOps methodologies.
• Interest and experience in backend and distributed systems development.
• Strong analytical thinking with effective teamwork and communication capabilities.
• Commitment to continuous learning and adaptability.

Technology Landscape

• Serverless functions and services mostly developed using Python and Java.
• Utilization of various AWS and GCP cloud services.
• Infrastructure-as-code and automated deployments managed via GitHub Actions.
• Monitoring and operational tools including Datadog for observability.

Additional Information

This role is office-based, requiring presence at the Christchurch office at least three days per week.
