About Mitti by SafetyCulture

Mitti by SafetyCulture is a global technology company focused on creating tools that improve work conditions for the three billion frontline workers globally. Operating with a team of nearly 1,000 members, the company offers a dynamic environment that combines large-scale technology impact without bureaucratic obstacles. Every permanent team member receives equity, ensuring shared growth through the company's expansion. The focus for this chapter is smart scaling using AI, clear vision, and genuine ownership.

Role Overview

As a Software Engineer II within the Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) team, you will deliver clearly defined backend services and features, adhering to architectural guidelines established by senior engineers. This position offers an opportunity to deepen expertise in identity management as the platform is modernized.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend components of a scalable software-as-a-service platform, including distributed systems and data storage solutions.
  • Own features end-to-end, collaborating cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering teams.
  • Develop and manage authentication and user lifecycle processes such as signup, login, multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, and user orchestration, gaining substantial expertise in identity domains.
  • Participate in incremental and safe decommissioning of legacy identity systems using feature flags, backward compatibility strategies, and staged rollouts.
  • Maintain a security-first mindset by handling credentials and tokens with care and proactively addressing security concerns.
  • Engage actively in code reviews, testing efforts, and ongoing improvement of engineering practices.
  • Create foundational platform capabilities that are easy for other engineering teams to adopt and integrate, treating internal teams as customers.
  • Exemplify SafetyCulture’s core values: customer-centric thinking, transparency, teamwork, and bold action.

Technical Skills and Experience

  • Strong backend programming skills, ideally with experience in Golang, and a growing ability to build scalable systems.
  • Proven track record of delivering software features collaboratively from conception through deployment.
  • Proficient in relational database design and management with PostgreSQL, including schema design, performing safe migrations, and optimizing indexes and query performance.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, including deploying, operating, and debugging production services.
  • Good understanding of distributed systems concepts such as API design, handling retries, ensuring idempotency, managing timeouts, and eventual consistency.
  • Some exposure to authentication, session management, or identity protocols like single sign-on, OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0, or SAML. While deep expertise is not mandatory, a strong willingness to learn is essential.
  • Experience working in multi-tenant systems that require maintaining organizational and membership boundaries under scale and change.
  • Commitment to producing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code and engaging constructively in code reviews.

Behavioural Skills

  • Self-motivated and able to independently drive defined problems to completion without daily supervision.
  • Exhibits strong judgement regarding when to escalate risks or seek assistance, avoiding prolonged blockers.
  • Effective communicator who collaborates well with product, design, and other engineering teams, capable of explaining technical matters to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Focuses on creating solutions that are user-friendly for other engineering teams, not just for personal convenience.
  • Comfortable operating in a dynamically changing architecture and adapting to shifting priorities.

Artificial Intelligence Skills

  • Regularly employs AI-powered coding assistants during development and critically assesses their output for correctness, quality, and security.
  • Identifies realistic opportunities to incorporate automation or AI enhancements within feature development.
  • Expected to use AI tools daily with informed skepticism; however, not responsible at this level for setting organizational AI tooling strategies or policies.

Inclusion and Culture

Mitti is dedicated to fostering inclusive teams and a culture where everyone can bring their authentic selves to work. Throughout the recruitment process, reasonable adjustments will be made to ensure fairness. The company has received recognition as a Best Place to Work in Australia, the US, and the UK. Candidates who may not meet all listed criteria are still encouraged to apply as potential is valued over strict qualifications.
