Job description

Role Overview

We seek a passionate full-stack software engineer to spearhead HotDoc's growth-driven initiatives. You will fully own the experimentation cycle for designated teams—designing, launching, tracking, and analyzing growth experiments that influence how over 2 million patients manage healthcare monthly. Collaborating closely with the Head of Growth Engineering, you'll pioneer AI-powered workflows and define the team's engineering culture while continuously enhancing the patient journey.

About HotDoc

HotDoc is committed to providing an improved healthcare experience across Australia. Our growth mission focuses on ensuring patients receive the care they need by running thorough, data-backed experiments throughout the patient lifecycle—building a trusted, habitual healthcare management platform for clinics, patients, and practitioners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and collaborate with Growth PMs to select impactful experiments targeting key product metrics.
  • Manage full experiment lifecycle—hypothesis formulation, minimal viable product development, precise tracking, result analysis, and comprehensive team presentation.
  • Implement experiments behind feature flags with safety measures including guardrail metrics, opt-out options, consent, and strict patient safety compliance.
  • Refine the product by integrating successful experiments and fully removing unsuccessful attempts, cleaning associated code and instrumentation.
  • Document detailed outcomes of every experiment to build a reusable knowledge base for the Growth team.
  • Create and disseminate reusable AI-enhanced workflows and techniques that uplift the whole Growth organization's efficiency.
  • Adhere to high engineering standards ensuring code quality and maintainability while delivering within tight sprint cycles.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • At least 5 years developing and scaling B2C products, preferably with growth experience in marketplace or community platforms.
  • Excellent product intuition and user experience understanding, particularly in multi-sided platforms involving clinics, patients, and practitioners.
  • Full-stack development expertise with judicious use of AI tools combined with collaborative teamwork.
  • Prior practical use of AI tools like Claude, Codex, or their equivalents to augment development.
  • Proactive and transparent communication skills to flag technical or measurement risks proactively.
  • Strong discipline in rolling back features based on data results to ensure experiment integrity.

Preferred Extras

  • Hands-on experience with A/B testing, feature flagging, and clickstream analytics instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of growth accounting, including identifying and influencing north star metrics.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools such as GrowthBook or Amplitude.
  • Experience in regulated consumer sectors like healthcare, emphasizing trust and data privacy.

Success Milestones

  • Within 3 months: Gain full understanding of the team's growth drivers; launch initial experiments effectively; contribute to prioritizing future roadmap.
  • Within 6 months: Maintain a steady flow of high-impact experiments and confidently report metric improvements; develop and share AI workflows across Growth teams.
  • Within 12 months: Deliver significant measurable growth impact; enhance tools and processes for experimentation across HotDoc; actively influence how growth engineering evolves.

Technical Stack

  • Backend: Ruby on Rails modular monolith, PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq
  • Frontend: Ember.js
  • Data & Experimentation: GrowthBook, Metabase, BigQuery, dbt
