Job description

About the Role

Tanda is inviting a motivated Software Engineer to join our Product Team at an intermediate level. Over the past two years, Tanda has launched innovative Payroll and HR software products, with plans to expand further. Our product team supports Workforce Management, HR, and Payroll systems, deploying more than 30 updates daily. We actively encourage integrating AI where beneficial, staying at the forefront of emerging technologies and workflows.

Our Technology Stack

Our platform is primarily built with Ruby on Rails, supplemented by Javascript, PostgreSQL, AWS, and Docker. Prior experience with Rails is welcome but not essential; related frameworks like Laravel or Django are considered relevant. We prioritize a growth-minded individual over specific past skills and provide training upon joining.

Working Environment and Scale

  • Operating across APAC and Europe regions
  • Handling approximately 40,000 requests per minute in APAC
  • Processing hundreds of thousands of background jobs daily
  • Serving major Australian employers such as Domino’s, Guzman y Gomez, Best & Less, and Starbucks

Success in Your First Year

  • Gain deep understanding of our codebase and industry domain
  • Contribute to and potentially lead multiple product features, initially with team support, progressing to greater independence
  • Participate in on-call rotations
  • Rapidly expand your scope of responsibilities
  • Provide valuable input in team discussions, balancing approaches and trade-offs

Desired Traits

  • Curiosity to learn continuously and avoid repeating mistakes
  • Initiative to be self-driven and impact-oriented, expected to grow into a "manager of one" role
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a systematic approach addressing constraints effectively

Candidate Profile

The role does not require a university degree; practical impact and projects are more valued than credentials. Intermediate Engineers need not have direct experience with our stack but must be excited to learn, open to challenges, and able to accept feedback. Enthusiasm for problem-solving and curiosity is essential. Senior Engineers should have hands-on Ruby on Rails experience, knowledge of common performance issues and solutions, flexibility in approach, and uphold high standards while mentoring others.

Why Join Tanda

  • Significant impact on a global product with a compact, focused engineering team
  • Balanced workflow with dedicated periods for bug fixes, refactoring, and professional growth via the Shape Up development framework
  • Opportunities to excel in diverse roles and teams as the company scales
  • Engage with challenging and innovative workforce management problems
  • Enjoy a vibrant company culture including stocked fridges, book clubs, demo days, board game nights, and more
  • Company retreats typically held at coastal locations for team bonding
  • Personal professional development budgets and conference support
