Software Engineer - AI Platform

About the Role

We are seeking a Software Engineer to advance and maintain our internal AI Platform moving it from a prototype stage into a dependable operational system. This platform supports various agentic AI applications within the organisation. Initially, your duties will involve hands-on platform engineering and DevSecOps tasks such as enhancing deployment processes, security protocols, observability, and daily operational support, alongside building a comprehensive understanding of the platform.

You will collaborate closely with platform engineers and business stakeholders using technologies including AWS, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, TypeScript, and event-driven services. This position is ideal for an engineer with solid practical technical experience aiming to grow through active delivery and continuous learning. As your understanding deepens, you will contribute more significantly to backend development and architectural decisions under the guidance and final accountability of the platform owner. Frontend work will be primarily limited to internal tool development and features enabling.

Responsibilities

• Enhance the platform's operational stability by delivering improvements that make deployment, maintenance, and support processes more reliable and consistent.
• Manage and refine AWS and Kubernetes environments, automate infrastructure modifications, and maintain detailed environment configurations.
• Develop and optimize CI/CD pipelines incorporating automated testing, security validation, and rollback strategies to enable safe and efficient releases.
• Implement designated security controls for managing secrets, permissions, and audit logging while escalating significant risks as necessary.
• Advance monitoring, logging, and alerting capabilities; analyze incidents; and improve platform reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency.
• Support PostgreSQL operations and event-driven services, including handling data changes, recovery strategies, and cross-service troubleshooting.
• Create and maintain backend services using TypeScript, including APIs, integrations, and internal tools to facilitate platform features and AI workflows.
• Document standard operating procedures and collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to identify and prioritize platform support improvements.
• Participate in design reviews and gradually assume responsibility for architectural decisions and comprehensive platform enhancements in alignment with your progressing expertise.

Required Skills and Experience

• Proficiency in writing, testing, and debugging backend code in TypeScript or another backend language, with a readiness to work primarily with TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience with deploying or maintaining cloud-hosted applications and containerized workloads.
• Familiarity with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines, coupled with an understanding of automated testing, safe release processes, and infrastructure as code principles.
• Knowledge of relational database systems and API usage with a structured approach to diagnosing application and infrastructure problems.
• Understanding of secure development practices including managing secrets, access controls, and making informed decisions on when to seek review or escalate issues.
• Capability to rapidly assimilate new systems, integrate feedback, maintain thorough documentation, and communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Direct working experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and PostgreSQL, particularly in improving deployment and operational workflows.
• Exposure to event-driven architectures and asynchronous service integration methods.
• Experience with a systems programming language.
• Knowledge of large language model (LLM) applications, agentic workflows, or AI development tools.
• Background in financial services or regulated industry environments.
