We seek a skilled engineer passionate about operating systems, development tooling, programming languages, and low-level C++ libraries to join our agile, compact team based in Dublin under a hybrid working arrangement.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum of three years' experience in systems programming using C++, or similarly low-level languages.
  • Proven track record of producing production-quality code, with an emphasis on C++.
  • Enthusiastic about product delivery and collaborating with cross-team stakeholders.
  • Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, software design, and architecture.
  • Keen interest in continuous learning, especially regarding software engineering, distributed systems, and performance optimization.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, and a strong team collaboration mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhance and maintain the programmability features within the MongoDB Server.
  • Lead projects of moderate scale aligned with the team's goals.
  • Engage in all phases of project development: ideation, requirement analysis, designing, implementation, and delivery.
  • Embody MongoDB’s leadership principles in daily work and interactions.
  • Write efficient, production-grade C++ code, along with unit and integration tests in C++, JavaScript, and Python that ensure application reliability.
  • Analyze server performance and create regression tests to monitor performance trends.
  • Participate in the interview process for new software engineering candidates.
  • Address and resolve customer escalations effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with various internal teams and stakeholders on large-scale initiatives.

Success Indicators

  • Within the first month, gain an understanding of MongoDB’s architecture and resolve initial bugs.
  • Within three months, contribute to the development of a project planned for the upcoming MongoDB major release and resolve some customer-reported issues.
  • Within six months, assume responsibility for code reviews and design evaluations for new features.
  • Within twelve months, lead the creation of new features and provide mentorship to new team engineers.
