Role Overview

As a Software Engineer II reporting to the Team Lead of Software Engineering, you will independently apply your skills and collaboratively work with cross-functional teams to deliver outstanding customer experiences. You will tackle moderately complex problems, develop high-quality solutions, and begin mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design moderately complex software applications or components end-to-end.
• Contribute to design of components within larger software systems, defining appropriate user and system interfaces.
• Create multi-faceted design views that address stakeholders’ concerns, both functional and non-functional requirements, and security considerations.
• Develop, test, document, and refactor moderately complex programs and scripts.
• Adhere to agreed standards, utilize appropriate tools, follow design patterns, and implement security measures to produce robust software.
• Track development progress, identify issues, and propose practical mitigations.
• Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordinating software releases in alignment with defined processes.
• Participate in quality assurance and testing to ensure release standards are met.
• Document release outcomes and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
• Engage in peer reviews of work and support evaluation of technical options and compromises.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 4 years experience in relevant software engineering roles.
• Proficient with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and familiar with DevOps practices.
• Solid programming experience in Python and C++.
• Strong collaboration skills to interact with colleagues, customers, and partners effectively.
• Ability to understand user needs fully and contribute meaningfully to team objectives.
• Capacity to manage diverse and complex tasks, resolve issues methodically, and participate in creative problem solving.
• Effective communication aptitude and proficiency in applying suitable digital skills.
• A proactive learner committed to security, privacy, and ethical standards.
• Comprehensive industry knowledge with a clear understanding of business context.
• Capability to assimilate, apply, and share knowledge efficiently.

Additional Information

This is primarily an office-based role requiring attendance at the Christchurch office three days per week. Occasionally, Tier 3 after-hours support may be necessary.
