Software DevOps Developer

Opportunity Overview

This position is part of AIR6500, the Royal Australian Air Force's $3 billion initiative aimed at deploying a state-of-the-art networked joint air battle management system. The program enhances situational awareness, integrates air and missile defence, and accelerates decision-making in joint and coalition environments. The role is situated in Mawson Lakes, South Australia.

Role Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to support AIR6500's software lifecycle.
• Assist in the upkeep and development of DevSecOps infrastructure facilitating automated testing and deployment.
• Automate software build processes, verification steps, and internal business workflows.
• Manage software build status reporting for operational and testing releases.
• Oversee DevSecOps tools and infrastructure including container orchestration platforms, build agents, monitoring utilities, and dashboards.
• Provide administration and maintenance for the engineering tool suites and DevSecOps toolchains.
• Facilitate software promotion and deployment throughout the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Collaborate with development teams to diagnose and fix build and deployment issues.
• Help implement source control best practices and release management strategies.
• Support the deployment, upkeep, and evolution of the 1LMX tool suite.
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts for engineering tools and DevSecOps environments.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates will have a strong technical foundation paired with enthusiasm for automation and refining software delivery methodologies. Experience or backgrounds suitable for early career engineers, including graduates with two or more years in junior roles, are encouraged to apply.

Required Skills and Experience

• Proficient with version and artifact management systems such as GitLab and Nexus.
• Experienced in build automation and CI tools, especially GitLab CI.
• Familiar with issue tracking and workflow software like Jira.
• Skilled in Infrastructure as Code technologies including Ansible, Terraform, and Packer.
• Experience in scripting and automation processes.
• Comfortable operating within Linux environments.
• Ability to collaborate with developers to resolve build and deployment challenges.
• Knowledge of containerisation and orchestration technologies, specifically Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools such as IBM Jazz and collaboration platforms like Microsoft SharePoint.
• Understanding of APIs and web services including REST, SOAP, XML, and JSON.
• Exposure to virtualization platforms like VMware vSphere and VMware Horizon.
• Experience in defense, engineering, or other regulated tech sectors is advantageous.
• Competence in AI prompting relevant to this role's practice.
