Role Overview
Join the expanding RDS Aurora Serverless Control Plane team to innovate cloud-native database management solutions. This service expertly manages a vast fleet of databases, automates lifecycle operations from creation to scaling and failover, and ensures exceptional availability for high-demand workloads.

Position Responsibilities
- Lead a core part of the Control Plane focused on Aurora Serverless v2 and enterprise features.
- Provide technical guidance and direction for your team, coaching junior and mid-level engineers through meaningful projects.
- Collaborate with senior engineers on complex features impacting multiple teams and delivering high value to customers.
- Engage directly with customers to gather feedback and understand use-cases to shape the team vision and product roadmap.
- Drive delivery of new customer-facing features and improvements to operational and technical efficiency.
- Foster a culture of ownership, challenge assumptions, and steer system changes to ensure scalability.
- Take part in manager on-call responsibilities quarterly to ensure system fault tolerance and rapid incident resolution.
- Manage team operations, prioritize backlog, work closely with product management, and communicate updates to leadership.

Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of the full software/hardware/network development lifecycle including best engineering practices.
- Proven experience managing engineering teams.
- Background in software engineering and leadership of multi-tier web services development.
- Collaboration with product and program management teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Effective communication with users, cross-functional teams, and leadership to gather requirements and define product strategy.
- Experience in recruiting, mentoring, and coaching engineers to enhance team capabilities.
Additional Information
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring technical proficiency, empathy, and effective collaboration. Prior database expertise is not mandatory; curiosity and craftsmanship are highly valued. The team is part of AWS Utility Computing, innovating foundational cloud services.
The role entails people management with scope to define processes and mechanisms aligning with organizational goals. Manager on-call duties occur once every three months alongside work to promote system reliability.
