Job Overview
This role involves leading the development of Amazon Aurora's control plane, a cloud-native relational database solution that manages extensive database fleets with superior availability and failover capabilities. Aurora supports MySQL and PostgreSQL compatibility while delivering NoSQL-like scalability and high performance for handling massive data volumes and query loads.
Key Responsibilities
As an engineering leader, you will collaborate with skilled engineers to solve challenging large-scale distributed systems problems, influence feature design and delivery end-to-end, and foster a startup mindset focused on results and innovation. You will mentor and coach diverse engineering teams, work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional partners, and contribute to building a high-performing team culture that emphasizes accountability and excellence.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years managing engineering teams.
- Over 7 years of engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle practices including coding standards, code reviews, version control, building, testing, certification, and live site operations.
- Experience collaborating with product and program management teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with users, technical teams, and senior leadership to gather requirements, explain product features and technical designs, and inform product strategy.
- Experienced in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and managing software engineering teams to enhance skills and productivity.
- Expertise in designing or architecting scalable and reliable new and existing systems using design patterns.
- Managing software engineers working on complex, high-quality, scalable software systems that have been successfully deployed to customers.
