Job description

Overview

We are collaborating with an expanding AI Cloud company focused on developing the software platform that supports large-scale data centers and GPU infrastructure. This position is ideal for an experienced Software Development Manager who desires close engagement with technology while leading and growing a high-caliber engineering team. The platform is primarily built from scratch, encompassing data engineering, automation, developer tools, AI enablement, and product engineering, offering the chance to shape technical direction and engineering standards with minimal legacy constraints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide and mentor a team of software engineers to achieve high performance.
  • Define technical priorities, drive delivery strategies, and ensure project completion.
  • Maintain hands-on involvement with coding and system design.
  • Implement strong engineering practices including planning, design review, code review, continuous integration/deployment, and production management.
  • Support career growth, skill development, and performance management of engineers.
  • Lead recruitment, interviewing, and team expansion efforts.
  • Create and manage the technical roadmap balancing speed, quality, and budget considerations.
  • Oversee operations such as on-call rotations, incident responses, and post-incident processes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Site Operations, and other teams to convert vague requirements into scalable, reliable solutions.
  • Proactively identify internal customer needs and develop platform features to prevent operational bottlenecks.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience managing software engineering teams.
  • Strong software development background before transitioning to management.
  • Technical proficiency sufficient to review and critique code and system designs.
  • Demonstrated success in hiring, nurturing, and retaining engineering talent.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the entire software development lifecycle.
  • Experience managing delivery timelines, task prioritization, and technical planning.
  • Knowledge and experience with distributed systems and managing production environments.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, evolving, and ambiguous setting.
  • Excellent communication skills interfacing with engineering, product, and leadership stakeholders.

Desirable Experience

  • Expertise in data engineering, automation, developer tools, AI enablement, or product engineering.
  • Previous roles as a Tech Lead or Senior Software Engineer.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Terraform.
  • Experience developing software closely integrated with physical infrastructure or hardware-centric operations.

Additional Information

This role suits an engineering leader intent on meaningful ownership, technical influence, and building teams from the ground up rather than inheriting established setups. If you are a hands-on Software Development or Engineering Manager interested in a dynamic AI infrastructure space, confidential discussions are welcome.
