About the Role

The Masterton office is seeking a permanent Social Worker to join their team in this family-oriented community known for outdoor activities and affordable living, just 1.5 hours from Wellington.

Key responsibilities include engaging with tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau to listen, assess needs, design intensive intervention plans, facilitate hui-ā-whānau and family group conferences, and collaborate with community agencies and local iwi to improve outcomes.

  • Amplify and support the voices of tamariki and rangatahi and assist whānau to effect positive change.
  • Engage respectfully with diverse cultural groups and backgrounds.
  • Conduct safety assessments and initial checks for tamariki, rangatahi, and their families.
  • Lead hui and empower whānau to enhance their caregiving capacity.
  • Plan and execute interventions aimed at keeping tamariki and rangatahi within their family environments.
  • Work closely with community partners, NGOs, and government agencies.
  • Advocate on behalf of tamariki and rangatahi to ensure access to necessary support and resources.

Candidate Requirements

  • Possess a full, clean New Zealand driver's licence.
  • Hold full registration with the New Zealand Social Work Registration Board (SWRB) and be able to secure a practicing certificate before commencing work.
  • Possess a social work qualification recognised by the SWRB.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude alongside the capacity to inspire and empower tamariki and rangatahi.
  • Show empathy, patience, and the ability to look beyond immediate struggles.
  • Have strong verbal communication skills adaptable to diverse audiences.
  • Exhibit strong written communication abilities for preparing plans, reports, case notes, and other documentation.
  • Apply analytical skills effectively to evaluate the evolving needs of tamariki and rangatahi.
  • Be capable of managing risks and making challenging decisions where necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The annual salary range for this position is $81,206 to $97,557, determined by experience, with progression linked to tenure.
