About Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children

Role Summary

This permanent full-time position based in Wellington is more than just reporting; it involves stewardship of workforce data, interpreting insights, and creating tools that illuminate workforce dynamics to inform leadership decisions. The Senior HR Analyst serves as the primary expert for HR data extraction, analysis, model development, interpretation, and presentation. You will build comprehensive data models and Power BI dashboards that turn complex datasets into actionable insights understandable by non-technical stakeholders.

Work Setup

This role operates on a hybrid model with office presence in Wellington required on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and flexibility to attend additional office days as business needs arise.

Key Responsibilities and Skills

  • Serve as a trusted voice in workforce data analytics within HR and people analytics fields.
  • Design and maintain advanced Power BI dashboards and reports.
  • Develop robust data models translating intricate workforce information into clear insights.
  • Analyze trends, risks, and opportunities within workforce data to guide strategic action.
  • Communicate data-driven findings effectively to various stakeholders including senior leaders.
  • Create reports, metrics, and dashboards supporting business decision-making processes.
  • Ensure data governance adherence, uphold quality assurance, and follow reporting best practices.
  • Manage preparation of responses to high-profile information requests such as Official Information Act submissions, Parliamentary Questions, and Ministerial enquiries.
  • Use advanced Excel and business intelligence tools proficiently with workforce data.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication capabilities to simplify technical information for diverse audiences.
  • Understand and respect cross-cultural contexts, especially tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples’ cultures.

Compensation and Benefits

The remuneration package is structured with steps that increase annually based on experience and tenure, starting between NZD 106,416 and NZD 117,782 per year.
