About Corlann and the Role
Corlann West Region is recruiting a Social Care Worker for John Paul Adult Services located in Ballybane, Galway. This permanent part-time position is primarily onsite. The service supports adults with diverse needs, transitioning from campus-based care to community living, fostering valued citizenship, personal choice, and meaningful daily experiences for the people supported.
Key Responsibilities
The Social Care Worker, reporting to a Team Leader and other supervisors, serves as a key worker for individuals. The role involves providing a safe and supportive environment where individuals can engage in community and leisure activities, enjoy new experiences, and achieve personal potential.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Registration with the Social Care Workers Register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registration Board (CORU), or eligibility under Section 91 for existing practitioners with proof of application status.
- A clean full manual driving licence allowing operation of manual vehicles on Irish roads is essential. Obtaining a Class D1 licence may also be required, with assistance provided.
- Experience with individuals who have intellectual disabilities, autism, or complex needs is preferred; comprehensive induction and training are provided.
- Fluent verbal and written English skills and proficiency in IT are mandatory.

- Ability and willingness to network with community groups to develop positive connections for service users.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge on intellectual disability practices.
Working Conditions and Hours
- The position requires working 78 hours per fortnight under a 14-day duty roster.
- Flexibility is essential to accommodate integrated day services, weekend shifts, split duty hours, public holidays, evening/night duties, and sleep-ins as needed.
Leave and Remuneration
- Annual leave of 22 days per year, pro-rated for part-time hours (8.46 hours per 100 hours worked).
- Additional service-related leave after 5 and 10 years of tenure.
- Salary scale as per Department of Health Social Care Worker rates effective 01/06/2026: €41,260 increasing through 11 increments to €56,717 per annum (pro-rata for part-time). Long service increment of €57,789 after 3 years at maximum scale.
- Extra payments for work on weekends, public holidays, and night shifts.
- Salary is based on a 39-hour week; prior relevant public sector service may grant incremental credit.
Additional Terms
- This is a permanent, pensionable position.
- A probation period of nine months applies, during which employment may be terminated or probation extended at employer discretion.
- Future vacancies may be filled from a panel formed through this recruitment within 6 months.
