Program Overview

Taproot Community Support Services is a fully employee-owned organization through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), where every team member holds ownership and influence from day one, including profit-share dividends. Position Summary

The Disability Service Worker (DSW) plays a key role, reporting to the Team Leader, delivering and supervising education and development programs that support individuals with physical, behavioral, emotional, and social challenges both at home and in community settings. DSWs foster meaningful relationships with clients, families, guardians, employers, and community partners, and advocate for those without an extended support system to ensure their voices are heard and respected.

Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Permanent full-time role with 40 hours per week.
  • Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • An additional $3.30 per hour premium is offered when supporting clients with complex needs (not applicable to training or non-complex shifts).

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with household tasks, life skills, and personal hygiene as needed.
  • Deliver individualized support in alignment with personalized care plans.
  • Respond promptly to crisis events using de-escalation strategies.
  • Administer medications and provide first aid when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate, objective daily records and documentation through computer programs.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12 or higher; diploma or degree in Disability Studies, Social Work, Human Services, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum one year of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, complex needs, behavioral and mental health challenges.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record and dependable transportation.
  • Clear criminal record and social services checks prior to employment.
  • Positive attitude endorsing client autonomy, active community participation, and rights.
  • Competency in assisting with anger management, daily living activities, and self-help.
  • Required certifications: First Aid/CPR, Crisis Prevention Intervention, Medication Administration, Abuse Protocol, Proactive Procedures and Behavioural Strategies, Foundations and Disabilities Training.
  • Knowledge of health and safety protocols pertinent to personal well-being.
