About The Role

The Small Business Specialist (SBS) will be based at an ANZ branch in Mackay, Queensland. You will engage directly with small business customers and branch colleagues to assist in starting, managing, and growing successful enterprises. Leveraging industry knowledge and customized banking solutions, you will provide trusted guidance that aligns with customers' business and financial goals.

Acting as the primary business banking expert in the branch, you will collaborate closely with Branch Managers, Bankers, and local teams to uncover opportunities, deepen relationships, and connect clients to tailored products, services, and expertise. Your work will involve proactive client conversations, business development, and fostering strong referral partnerships to generate valuable outcomes and business growth.

You will maintain a balance between advocating for customers and ensuring strong risk management by conducting compliant, responsible interactions supportive of ANZ’s commitment to positive customer outcomes. The role involves operating in a dynamic, fast-moving environment and building lasting trust within the local community alongside cross-functional teams.

Typical Day

• Engage with customers via phone regarding lending inquiries to comprehend their business and financial requests.
• Work collaboratively with Asset Finance Managers, Credit Assessment teams, Quality Control Officers, and Fulfilment Officers.
• Recommend appropriate products and services that best suit the customer’s business needs, acting in their best interest.
• Analyze financial data from business customers to assess lending feasibility and viability.
• Prepare lending applications and coordinate with credit assessment to achieve suitable credit decisions.

Candidate Profile

• Able to manage responsibilities in high-volume, fast-paced workplaces.
• Demonstrated ability to meet and surpass performance goals.
• Competent in evaluating a customer’s creditworthiness using both qualitative and quantitative criteria (the 5Cs of credit).
• Experience or understanding of small business operations, lending procedures, transaction banking, and working capital solutions.
• Knowledge of lending and cash flow management strategies.
• Strong multitasking skills with the ability to track customer documents, banking transactions, and internal communications accurately.
