Job Overview

We seek a skilled Slitting Line Operator experienced in managing and maintaining a narrow-width stainless steel slitting line. The role involves independent control over the full slitting process, from coil loading through precise knife settings to the finishing of slit coils.

Primary Responsibilities

• Efficient and safe operation of a stainless steel narrow-width slitting line.
• Managing the entire slitting procedure including coil loading and recoiling of slit coils.
• Setting and adjusting slitting knives, spacers, separators, and tooling to achieve the required slit measurements.
• Ensuring precise slit widths down to a minimum of 10 mm on stainless steel coils.
• Monitoring quality by detecting and controlling defects such as burrs, edge damage, camber, telescoping, scratches, and irregular winding.
• Controlling line speed, tension, alignment, and recoiling parameters during production.
• Verifying material details like specification, thickness, width, and production prerequisites before commencing work.
• Coordinating coil loading/unloading activities with crane or forklift operators when required.
• Maintaining accurate coil identification, production documentation, and traceability of slit materials.
• Reducing material wastage and optimizing production efficiency.
• Conducting routine inspections and basic maintenance of the slitting line and related machinery.
• Identifying mechanical or operational issues and collaborating with maintenance teams for swift resolution.
• Adhering to strict housekeeping standards and safety protocols including the use of PPE.
• Recording production metrics such as output, rejections, scrap, and downtime.

Candidate Profile

• 3 to 10 years of direct experience operating steel or stainless steel slitting lines.
• Preference for candidates familiar with narrow-width slitting processes.
• Experience handling stainless steel coils with thicknesses ranging between 0.20 mm and 3.00 mm.
• Proficient in setting knives, calculating spacers, adjusting slitting clearances, and selecting appropriate tooling.
• Capability to produce narrow slit strips (as thin as 10 mm).
• Understanding of common slitting defects and techniques to manage their quality.
• Knowledge of coil handling, tension management, recoiling, and related quality checks.
• Ability to interpret production guidelines and operate measuring devices like vernier calipers, micrometers, and tapes.
• Basic mechanical troubleshooting aptitude and experience with preventive maintenance practices.
• Strong safety awareness; able to work autonomously and collaboratively within a production team.

Preferred Qualifications

• ITI or Diploma credentials in Mechanical, Production, or a related technical discipline are advantageous.
• Prior work experience in stainless steel service centers, coil processing facilities, or steel manufacturing units is a plus.
