About the Role

Higgins Wairarapa seeks a proactive and practical Site Engineer to join its Construction Team. This position is ideal for those early in their engineering career eager to develop skills in various surfacing and civil construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning and coordination of daily activities in construction and surfacing, including road construction, subdivisions, chipseal, asphalt, and preparatory tasks.
  • Help prepare quotes, cost estimates, and basic pricing for related projects.
  • Coordinate resources such as plant equipment, labor, subcontractors, and suppliers to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Compile and prepare job work packs for approval, comprising Job Safety and Environmental Analyses (JSEAs), Method Statements, and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Monitor project timelines, quality standards, and site documentation to ensure compliance.
  • Support tracking of project financials and cost management.
  • Develop strong collaborative relationships with crews, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
  • Champion safe working methods and uphold Higgins’ safety, quality, and environmental policies.

Candidate Requirements

  • Some practical experience in civil construction, roadworks, or engineering support roles, including internships or graduate placements.
  • Familiarity with civil construction methodologies, with an advantage for exposure to surfacing or construction operations.
  • A tertiary engineering qualification such as NZDCE, BE Civil, or an equivalent credential.
  • Willingness to learn from seasoned engineers and operational management.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for building strong working relationships.
  • Good organizational abilities with keen attention to detail.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications and interested in enhancing digital and technical competencies.
  • A dependable, positive attitude paired with a strong commitment to health and safety standards.
  • Must hold a full Class 1 Driver Licence.
