Job description

Role Purpose and Scope

The Service Person is an integral member of a multi-skilled team tasked with the safe and efficient upkeep of facility infrastructure. This role involves providing professional technical repair and maintenance services for various assigned equipment, encompassing planning, scheduling, organizing, coordinating, training, and resource management to support daily facility maintenance operations.

The role requires maintenance and repair skills across multiple disciplines such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, and electrical systems under supervision. This includes upkeep of evaporative coolers, blower units, pumps, routine maintenance on fixed and mobile plant equipment, and performing safety inspections. Responsibilities span from conducting inspections and maintenance to minor repairs and equipment servicing, including assisting with replacements when necessary. Additionally, the Service Person supports tradespeople and other personnel while undertaking general duties like cleaning and documentation to enhance productivity and reliability.

Within the team, the Service Person fosters a culture of continuous improvement by supporting new initiatives and technical advancements and demonstrating problem-solving agility to complete tasks thoroughly. Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the position works collaboratively with the Facilities Operations Team, other maintenance staff, and departments across OASIS to uphold best practices and deliver consistent, quality facility operations and maintenance services that support the organizational mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out building maintenance tasks following established environmental and safety standards.
  • Manage building custodian and grounds maintenance services as instructed.
  • Accurately complete work-related documentation such as Work Orders, timesheets, and safety reports, including transitioning paper records into digital systems.
  • Assist with office services including shipping/receiving, inventory stocking, and operation of office equipment like copiers and postage meters.
  • Operate vehicles and material handling machinery such as trucks, forklifts, and hoists.
  • Perform minor electrical repairs and replacements under supervision.
  • Clean filters, heat exchangers, equipment, and perform painting tasks on equipment.
  • Handle door installations, lighting fixture changes, and restroom fixture adjustments.
  • Provide support in various facility and maintenance areas as needed.
  • Promote and ensure compliance with health and safety practices on site and within the workplace.
  • Perform additional reasonable duties as requested.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Work Health Safety (WHS) legislation and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) procedures.
  • Experience working in facility maintenance or related technical environments.
  • Understanding of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Australian citizenship is required.
  • 2-4 years of experience in trade and construction industry.
  • Proficient use of hand and power woodworking equipment including saws, routers, planers, and measuring tools.
  • Competent communication skills to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Certifications and Licenses

  • Certificate II in Construction Pathways or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Trade Certificate in Trade and Construction field.
  • Valid Driver's Licence.
  • White Card (Construction Induction).
  • Desirable qualifications include Working at Heights, First Aid/CPR, Confined Spaces, Forklift License, Elevated Work Platform License, and LR/MR Drivers License.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing).
  • Ability to lift items up to 5-10 kgs occasionally.
  • Capable of frequent walking, sitting, manual handling, kneeling, and standing as part of job duties.
  • Mental alertness and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Desk-based tasks combined with physical activity typical of office and site environments.

Security and Compliance

Employment requires obtaining and maintaining appropriate security and medical clearances, starting with an NV1 clearance and aiming for a Top-Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) Department of Defence Security Clearance.

Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Responsibilities

  • Commitment to performing tasks safely and reporting hazards promptly.
  • Continuous adherence to site EHS policies and procedures as outlined in the EHS Handbook.
  • Empowered to halt unsafe work activities using the Red-Card system.

Quality Assurance

  • Comply with the company’s Quality Program to meet customer satisfaction standards.
  • Understand and fulfill Quality Management responsibilities related to job activities and customer contracts.

Procedural Accountability

  • Thoroughly comprehend and implement operational, safety, quality, and environmental procedures relevant to the role.
