About the Role
The Service Group Owner for Database Engineering is responsible for leading the Database Engineering function within Infrastructure Services and Digital Workplace. This role focuses on providing strategic leadership, engaging effectively across the enterprise, and taking accountability for delivering database services that support vital business and technology outcomes.
The position is charged with defining the vision for the service group, guiding the database engineering roadmap, enhancing operational resilience, and ensuring the delivery of secure, reliable, cost-efficient, and contemporary database capabilities enterprise-wide. It includes leading teams through influence, prioritizing collaborations across business and technology stakeholders, and cultivating a high-performance engineering culture emphasizing ownership, continuous enhancement, and trusted partnerships.
Key Responsibilities and Experience
- Lead enterprise technology, infrastructure, platform, or database engineering functions in large, regulated environments.
- Formulate strategic plans for the service group, manage demand and priorities, make trade-off decisions, and achieve measurable business and technological results.
- Understand and apply knowledge of database technologies, platform operations, engineering best practices, resilience strategies, lifecycle management, software updates, automation, and service performance.
- Guide technical teams with coaching, skill development, role clarity, performance management, succession planning, and building positive culture.
- Engage with senior stakeholders effectively, influence leadership decisions, negotiate priorities, and communicate complex technical topics in a clear manner.
- Manage commercial and supplier relationships, including vendor performance, licensing agreements, service commitments, cost control, and overseeing third-party deliverables.
- Possess solid knowledge of risk management, security requirements, operational controls, incident and change management, and governance within enterprise IT settings.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a relevant tertiary qualification in Technology, Engineering, Business, or demonstrate equivalent practical leadership experience.
