Service Group Owner - Database Engineering

About the Role

The Service Group Owner for Database Engineering will spearhead the database engineering function within Infrastructure Services and Digital Workplace, offering clear strategic guidance, fostering strong enterprise collaboration, and owning the accountability of database services essential to critical business and technological outcomes.

This position holds responsibility for establishing the vision for the service group, directing the database engineering strategic roadmap, enhancing operational resilience, and ensuring that database services remain secure, dependable, cost-efficient, and technologically advanced across the organization. Leading through influence, coordinating priorities among business and technological stakeholders, and cultivating a high-performance engineering team culture focused on accountability, continual advancement, and trusted partnerships are key aspects of this role.

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications

• Bring extensive leadership experience within enterprise technology, infrastructure, platform, or database engineering in complex, heavily regulated settings.
• Demonstrate skill in defining strategic directions, managing service group planning and demand, making balanced trade-offs, and delivering tangible business and technology results.
• Exhibit a thorough understanding of database systems, platform operations, engineering methodologies, resilience, lifecycle management, software upgrades, automation, and performance monitoring.
• Lead technical teams effectively, including coaching, skill development, defining roles and expectations, succession planning, and nurturing a positive team culture.
• Possess strong stakeholder management capabilities to influence senior executives, prioritize initiatives, clearly communicate complex technical information, and foster strong partnerships across the enterprise.
• Manage commercial relationships and suppliers, including vendor performance oversight, licensing management, service level agreements, cost optimization, and accountability for third-party deliveries.
• Maintain sound expertise in risk management, security policies, operational controls, incident response, change management, and governance frameworks pertinent to enterprise technology.
• Hold a relevant tertiary qualification in Technology, Engineering, Business, or equivalent leadership experience.
