About the Role

The Government of Alberta's Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services invites applications for the position of Sentence Administrator based at the Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre. This permanent full-time role involves administering court orders, calculating sentences, ensuring lawful detention, and managing inmate court appearances within a correctional environment. The ministry oversees public security, correctional services, crime prevention, restorative justice, and supports victims of crime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and manage complex legal documents related to inmate sentencing and court orders.
  • Calculate sentences accurately, including Conditional Sentence Orders, applying various policies and legal guidelines.
  • Maintain offender warrant files and comprehensive inmate legal records.
  • Coordinate inmate transportation with Sheriffs and court officials to ensure court appearances.
  • Gather and analyze information from systems such as JOIN (Justice on-line Information Network) and CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) to determine eligibility for detention or release.
  • Assist stakeholders while complying with the Freedom of Information and Protection (FOIP) Act.
  • Perform data entry tasks within ORCA and handle general administrative functions.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum education: High School Diploma with at least three years of experience in Sentence Administration, including administrative duties, data entry, or legal administration.
  • Preferred qualifications: Post-secondary education in Criminal Justice, Legal Administration, Sociology, or related fields.
  • Experience interpreting and working with legal documents related to criminal law.
  • Familiarity with government systems such as JOIN, ORCA, and CPIC is an asset.
  • Knowledge of FOIP Act application in managing information.
  • Applicants with equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered (1 year education equals 1 year experience and vice versa).

Terms and Conditions

  • Salary range: $57,215 to $72,395 annually (bi-weekly pay between $2,192.15 and $2,773.77).
  • Work hours: 36.25 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
  • Location: Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre, 7802 101 Street, Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
  • Permanent full-time position with open competition scope.
  • Successful candidates must provide a fingerprint-based criminal record check; no online non-police agency checks accepted.
  • Reliable transportation is required due to limited public transit; parking is available.
