Role Overview
As a Senior/Staff Software Engineer focused on Platform Engineering for Singpass, you will architect and evolve a resilient, multi-cluster container platform that supports critical national services. Your work will focus on key areas such as infrastructure resilience, security compliance, observability, and improving developer productivity at a country-level scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop a hub-and-spoke multi-cluster OpenShift/Kubernetes infrastructure on AWS, ensuring zero downtime, multi-region failover capability, cost optimization, and high performance.
- Implement zero-trust infrastructure components including Istio Ambient mesh, SPIFFE/SPIRE workload identity federation, mutual TLS, and detailed authorization policies across complex network environments.
- Create and maintain self-service “golden paths” to streamline tenant onboarding and infrastructure management through modular Terraform/OpenTofu modules and clear architectural references.
- Standardize GitOps practices at scale using ArgoCD with ApplicationSets for multi-cluster synchronization and develop modern CI/CD pipelines.
- Lead platform security initiatives, including conducting security assessments, remediating penetration test findings, integrating SIEM logging, applying privileged access management, and enforcing strict egress controls.
- Drive technical governance by authoring Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and RFCs and facilitating cross-team architecture reviews to establish and maintain technical standards.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of ownership and technical excellence across teams.
Required Technical Expertise
- At least 6 years of experience in software or platform engineering, with a minimum of 3 years architecting and operating production Kubernetes/OpenShift (OCP 4.x) environments serving multiple teams.
- Hands-on experience with Istio service mesh (Ambient or sidecar modes) and workload identity frameworks such as SPIFFE/SPIRE.
- Advanced proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools, specifically Terraform or OpenTofu, with a proven track record of building widely adopted reusable module libraries.
- Strong knowledge of AWS enterprise systems, including multi-account landing zones, VPC design, Transit Gateway, PrivateLink, egress filtering, and managed database services.
- Expertise in GitOps methodologies (including ArgoCD), security remediation techniques, SIEM integration, and compliance management within high-security infrastructures.
Leadership and Collaboration Skills
- Demonstrated ability to define and promote technical standards through RFCs, architecture forums, and effective consensus building.
- Excellent documentation skills, producing accessible runbooks, system design documents, and developer guides that facilitate knowledge sharing at scale.
- Proven mentoring abilities supporting career growth beyond direct teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with enterprise secrets management tools such as OpenBao or HashiCorp Vault.
- Familiarity with distributed SQL databases like YugabyteDB, CockroachDB, or Google Cloud Spanner.
- Prior experience managing production systems in high-availability settings governed by strict regulatory requirements (government, defense, fintech).
- Exposure to Site Reliability Engineering practices, including SLO/SLI design and incident leadership.
- Understanding of AI-assisted software development guardrails and tooling.
- Active participation in CNCF or open-source infrastructure projects.
