Job description

About Qualcomm and Role Overview

Qualcomm is a pioneering technology company driving advancements in communication and data processing to shape a smarter, connected future worldwide. The company focuses on delivering cutting-edge products by defining, designing, optimizing, and validating digital and analog IP blocks and SoC designs.

We seek accomplished engineers specializing in CPU RTL development for high-performance, energy-efficient devices. The role involves collaborative interaction with chip architects to develop CPU microarchitectures and actively contribute to architecture and product specifications throughout the initial phases of product development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and explore strategies to enhance CPU performance alongside the CPU modelling team.
  • Drive microarchitectural design and specification from conceptual high-level exploration through detailed development.
  • Own RTL design activities, including development, evaluation, and improvements targeting power efficiency, high performance, silicon area optimization, and timing goals.
  • Provide assistance to the verification team to implement functional verification strategies effectively.
  • Support performance verification efforts ensuring RTL fulfills defined performance criteria.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional engineering teams to implement, validate, and deliver physical design aspects such as timing, reliability, area, power, and testability.

Candidate Profile

  • Comprehensive understanding of microprocessor architectures, with expertise in areas such as instruction fetch & decode, branch prediction, instruction scheduling, register renaming, out-of-order execution, integer and floating point pipelines, load/store units, prefetching techniques, caches, and memory subsystems.
  • Proficient in hardware description languages such as Verilog and/or VHDL, and experienced with simulation and waveform debugging tools.
  • Strong grasp of logic design fundamentals, considering timing and power constraints.
  • Familiarity with low power microarchitecture methods and high performance design trade-offs.
  • Experience with scripting languages like Perl or Python to automate or assist design and verification tasks.

Work Location

Position based in Cork, Ireland, a notable economic hub attracting numerous international companies and offering excellent quality of life along with accessibility to multiple international destinations via Cork Airport.

  • Programs facilitating bicycle purchases.
  • Multiple employee-run clubs such as running, football, chess, badminton, and more.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related discipline with a minimum of four years’ relevant ASIC design or verification experience.
  • Or a Master's degree with at least three years of equivalent experience.
  • Or a PhD with two or more years of relevant ASIC design, verification, validation, or integration experience.
  • Candidates with equivalent practical experience will also be considered if they demonstrate capability in fulfilling job responsibilities.
