Role Overview

As an integral part of the medical team, you will provide leadership in patient management and facilitate smooth ward operations. This position involves considerable clinical, supervisory, and educational duties, enhancing patient safety, service continuity, and the clinical growth of junior medical staff. You will be expected to apply strong clinical judgment, accurately diagnose, and independently manage complex cases while collaborating with senior clinicians.

Key Duties

• Manage and supervise daily clinical operations across assigned wards, ensuring consistent high patient care standards and service continuity.
• Conduct thorough clinical evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment of patients including routine and urgent referrals.
• Oversee and mentor House Officers, Medical Officers, and trainees, fostering their professional clinical skills.
• Respond to urgent and emergency referrals during on-call and night shifts, including making ward rounds beyond regular hours as necessary.
• Escalate difficult or complex cases to the Consultant on call and keep all parties informed regarding patient status and care plans.
• Assist in preparing, reviewing, and endorsing consultation and referral documents, especially during after-hours coverage.
• Compile and submit clinical and mortality-related documentation meeting regulatory and institutional guidelines.
• Represent the ward or institution in medico-legal cases or formal inquiries related to patient care when required.
• Engage actively in departmental ward rounds, educational sessions, clinical meetings, and ongoing medical education.
• In procedural or surgical specialties, perform elective and emergency interventions within competency scope while training junior doctors in foundational operative procedures.
• Demonstrate continuous commitment to specialty advancement, excellence in clinical practice, and lifelong learning.
• Fulfill additional tasks assigned by departmental heads and assume responsibilities of junior roles if needed operationally.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Possession of a recognised postgraduate medical qualification with completion of fundamental specialist training.
• Extensive clinical experience subsequent to housemanship and medical officer training within an acute care hospital setting.
• Registration with the Singapore Medical Council, having completed at least one year of housemanship and three years under medical officer postings.
