Role Overview
Under the guidance of the Head of AI Engineering, the Senior or Principal Machine Learning Engineer will implement the latest advances in AI—focusing on foundation models and self-supervised learning—into medical-grade AI solutions. Collaborating closely with software developers, testers, cloud DevOps, and integration engineers, this role demands a proactive mindset passionate about continuous learning and embracing cutting-edge tools and practices. Part of the R&D unit, this position offers a significant opportunity to impact patient lives meaningfully.
Key Responsibilities
- Create AI algorithms, prototypes, and healthcare applications emphasizing foundation models and self-supervised learning techniques.
- Enhance model performance and training workflows to achieve superior accuracy and scalability, enabling rapid experimentation cycles.
- Adopt and follow agile development methodologies and software engineering best practices, prioritizing test-driven development, swift prototyping, validation, and iterative improvements.
- Deliver regular technical updates and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
- Engage with current research literature to benchmark and integrate state-of-the-art AI methods.
- Conduct meticulous evaluation of generative AI models while collaborating closely with teams managing large-scale model training.
- Promote a culture of excellence and best practice in problem-solving, integrity, agility, and actively embody the organization's mission internally and externally.
Qualifications and Experience
- Significant experience working as an ML engineer or applied researcher closely integrated with software development teams.
- Proficient in Python programming and experienced with modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
- Practical expertise in developing foundation models and implementing self-supervised learning methods.
- Possesses an Honours degree or higher in computer science or an equivalent strong quantitative background paired with substantial software engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience in evaluating generative AI models and collaborating on scalable model training projects.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Familiarity with healthcare datasets and clinical AI solutions.
- Hands-on experience building, deploying, and testing ML models within a product-focused, software engineering environment.
- Knowledge of large-scale distributed training, AWS cloud technologies, and domains such as computer vision or natural language processing.
- Experience with diverse AI tools and methodologies.
- PhD in machine learning or equivalent advanced research experience.
- Track record of publications or open-source contributions related to foundation models, self-supervised learning, or generative AI.
