Role Overview

The Senior Vice President - Strategy Development leads the Strategy Development team within the Strategy and Business Development department at a senior leadership level. This role independently drives and manages the entire portfolio of strategy projects for Group-wide business units, support divisions, and various countries within QNB’s international footprint, requiring minimal supervision. The position encompasses strategy creation across regional and country levels, supporting Executive Management requests, including preparing for GCEO interviews, Board presentations, and public documents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage Group-wide strategic initiatives spanning domestic and international markets.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators to track progress of strategy projects.
  • Lead financial planning for strategic assignments and review financial implications.
  • Identify and analyze factors affecting profitability, growth, and productivity, advising senior executives accordingly.
  • Establish and implement best practices and KPIs within the department.
  • Exercise delegated authority responsibly while overseeing assigned teams and resources.
  • Integrate internal and external customer needs into strategic plans ensuring alignment across divisions and country General Managers.
  • Serve as a dependable liaison for business and support units regarding strategic initiatives and projects.
  • Oversee additional strategic functions such as annual business planning, performance management, and preparation of executive-level communications.
  • Obtain and clarify mandates from senior executives to define project scopes and deliverables.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple strategy development projects from inception to delivery, supervising project teams daily.
  • Guide junior strategy staff in analytical methods, hypothesis development, market sizing, framework construction, and strategic recommendation formulation.
  • Conduct regular reviews and feedback sessions with project teams and section leadership to maintain high performance.
  • Manage HR-related matters including performance evaluation, absenteeism, training needs, and recruitment within the team.
  • Encourage adoption of industry best practices and continuous improvement across strategic deliverables.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to promote innovation and out-of-the-box thinking within the team.
  • Support professional development efforts for self and subordinates through training, feedback, and mentorship.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of banking regulations, policies, and strategy methodologies, adapting recommendations accordingly.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant internal policies and external regulations, including AML, data protection, fraud controls, and conduct risks.
  • Uphold the Three Lines of Defence model to manage risks effectively and report accordingly.
  • Participate in and complete all mandatory trainings and seminars required by the Bank.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferably Master’s) plus an MBA from a reputable academic institution.
  • At least 15 years of professional experience with minimum 7 years in a strategic development capacity.
  • Previous senior management role in strategy, ideally at top consulting firms such as McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Booz, Oliver Wyman, Roland Berger or established international financial institutions.
  • Demonstrated progression in career, robust leadership capabilities, and team management expertise.
  • Proven ability managing strategy projects end-to-end from conceptualization to implementation.
  • Advanced analytical, methodological, and conceptual skills essential for strategic planning.
